Here’s a concept: maybe we should cut the Secret Service staff. Think about that now. Donald Trump seems to think that half staffs or even less can do the job of a full staff, given any situation that might arise, so let’s follow his logic, shall we? Let’s go ahead and cut the Secret Service by at least fifty percent or more. And if there’s a bad result, well then we’ll tell Donald that he just has to live with it. If he’s still around to tell.

The sheer stupidity of this is that yes, you can have “talented” people working somewhere. Most places do have talented people, whether we’re talking about the talent to roll a burrito properly or the talent to track tornadoes and other weather phenomena. The issue becomes when the work load rises to the level that you can be the best burrito roller on the planet, or the best weather data analyst, there’s simply too much work coming at you to keep up with the demand. Eventually, the people on staff simply cannot do what needs to be done and that’s the part that Trump doesn’t get.

He doesn’t get it because he has no concept of how anything works. It is, once again, a horror that we must face that we’re talking about having a man in power who has demonstrated in his own life over and over that he doesn’t know how an airline works, or a football team, or a vodka company, or mail order steaks, or sneakers (hey, how the sneakers doing? They still selling for $400 a pop?) or anything that he’s turned his hand to in business. Yet he’s in charge of a government that runs a country of 330 million people and used to be the most powerful nation on earth.

He managed to do this because he understands television and grift. That’s the tragedy here and always has been, that so many Americans are so stupid as to embrace somebody like this guy. He knows television. And now he’s back up on the TV saying that nothing could be done, it all just happened, literally out of the clear blue sky, and most of all, “Don’t blame me.”

Meanwhile, Kristi Noem is down in Texas talking about how good God has been through all of this. I hate this evangelical mindset more than I can express to you, because it exculpates all human responsibility. That’s the stupidity of the thing. If something goes badly it’s because God willed it. I actually had an evangelical tell me once that God had broken my computer. Seriously. She said, “He wants more of you.”

So I said to her, “God wants me to sit around and talk to him rather than write a blog, is that what you’re telling me?” Yes, it was. In her view, all that God wants is for people to do nothing but worship nonstop. I told her, “I don’t think so. I think that God wants us to create and build, even as he creates and builds. So right now I’m taking my computer to somebody else who is still working and I’m going to get it fixed.”

These people live in a dream world that is beyond description. That’s the true believers. The rest of them, the Noems of the world, are grifters and they know they’re pulling a con and they’re fine with it. Right now Noem is down in Texas trying to deflect the focus on his failed administration any way that she can.

Good luck, Kristi. People were pretty upset with Dubya over Katrina. I suspect that this mess of Trump’s isn’t going to be swept under the carpet any time soon. But maybe I’m wrong. Maybe this country has become that much stupider.

  1. I can’t decide if it’s stupidity, or just plain laziness. We are an obese nation…that will drive around a parking lot in a SUV to park as close as possible. Tv has replaced parents, teachers, and books. Indifference can’t keep a plant alive, much less a democracy. We’re the frog being slowly boiled alive.

  2. How does he explain giving Homeland Security so much more money this year? His mantra is cut immigration, but at the southern border it’s down by 90% since this time last year. Shouldn’t their funds be reduced since there are fewer people to “police?”

  3. If we had journalists with guts someone would point out how ICE hasn’t come close to meeting the 3k per day deportation goal. Suggest it’s “bloated” and/or “inefficient” and ask why shouldn’t IT be cut to attain greater efficiency?

    • Journalist’s with guts??? I thought we lost them in the Vietnam War. The only ones left are getting mowed down by the Israelis in Gaza. The rest are corn fed cows looking for the barn.
