Volodomyr Zelensky is the foremost leader of his generation and possibly for a couple of generations now, if you look at who has been on the world stage. He’s a populist candidate but not with all the baggage and corruption that such a label carries in this country. In fact, it’s remarkable if you put Trump and Zelensky side by side: they’re both populist candidates, they both carried an anti-elite message, and they both were actors on TV shows where they established a persona that led to the presidency. Zelensky played a history teacher who rose to become president of Ukraine. But there all resemblance ends. Zelensky is a self-made man, not one who lies about being one. And Zelensky is genuinely a servant of the people — which was the title of his TV show. Here’s what he did today to show Trump what leadership is all about.

His tweet ends: “that those who have gone missing, including children from a summer camp, will be returned to safety as soon as possible. We wish the brave first responders strength and a speedy recovery in the areas affected by the flooding.”
That is a gracious world leader. Zelensky has his own tragedies in his own country, but he can still reach out to this nation and make a humanitarian gesture. Because when all is said and done, what’s happening in Texas now is not a partisan battle — although it is being framed that way, like everything else that goes on in Trump world. It is a humanitarian crisis.
And so is the war in Ukraine. But you would never see Donald Trump reach out to Zelensky with empathy, because that’s a quality he doesn’t have. Sociopaths don’t. Between the night of July 4th and early July 5th, Russia unleashed a massive drone assault across Ukraine, deploying more than 320 drones, including HE-type (high explosive) units and decoy UAVs, reports Lev Parnas. But this wasn’t just a numbers game, he continues, these drones were laced with fragmentation elements, designed not just to destroy infrastructure but to shred human bodies
Zelensky’s country has been torn apart by Vladimir Putin and Trump sides with the aggressor. But still Zelensky makes the gesture that a true leader makes in time of humanitarian crisis. I wish that we had somebody in the White House worthy of the respectful gesture that Zelensky has proferred. We simply do not.
