Talk about the beginning of the end of democracy, you’re about to hear Ron DeSantis gushing over it. He and Donald Trump have rekindled their bromance and they’re going strong now. Maybe DeSantis has plans to leap frog over J.D. Vance, or maybe become Vance’s wingman on the 2028 ticket. In any event, post passage of the BBB megabill (and the fallout from that has not even begun yet) there’s a new GOP scheme to make America an authoritarian state.
Q: There's gonna be a new bill called Make American Elections Great Again, forcing the Census Bureau to redo the census to get an account of how many Americans w/proof of citizenship are in our country, redistricting some House districts. Thoughts?

Think about this now: You could have “census people” knocking on your door demanding proof of citizenship. And then if they didn’t like your proof for some reason, they could take you away in the middle of the night. That is not far fetched.

I go along with the idea that this is rigging the next election in plain sight. We are deeply divided in this country now. Trump is only in office by 1.5% of the vote. And with the horrifically bad legislation that is being passed, the only way left for the GOP is to restructure the entire system in their favor.
So will we go the constitutional amendment route? Who can say, with the Roberts court doing what it’s doing so far to cater to Trump and lodge tremendous power in the executive branch? And there are big stakes here for Trump having both chambers of Congress his last two years of office. Why not get in a few more Supreme Court justices, eh what? And they may try that anyway between now and 2028, considering how obliging the Supreme Court is being.
And the last U.S. Census was 2020, ergo it was not the “Biden census.” DeSantis is lying through his teeth, not that that’s anything new. And remember this?

I hate to think of the possibilities here. But I would caution DeSantis’s exuberance on one level: Florida and Texas are renowned for having undocumented immigrants. It might not be such a great idea to shine a spotlight on those two particular states. That could backfire bigly.

Elon’s going to have his work cut out for him then.
The FUBBB isn’t a done deal yet. However if it somehow passes by this time next year and the brown MAGA fecal matter is interfacing with the rotary oscillator (MAGAs go apeshit over the negative impacts on THEM and their shit hit the fan) loss of the House will be certain. Probably the Senate too. If the latter happens my fear is that Trump will form a temporary truce with McConnell. Pre-empt our idea for expanding SCOTUS to thirteen seats (one for each Circuit) and ram through legislation doing just that. Thune will turn over the reins to McConnell to ram through four Justices even worse than Alito and Thomas!
My family, being hillbillies from the hills and hollers of the oldest mountains on earth, and being formerly Scots, who the Romans didn’t conquer, were famous for their distrust of the government and outsiders in general. Wind up on their land unexpectedly, and you would find a firearm in your face, with a demand as to the reason you’re there. Several people in my family have killed folks in gunfights without going to jail. I watched my old man get into one with both blazing away. No one killed that time. My point? You may want to consider that before YOU try any of your bullshit in my neck of the woods. Bring body bags. You aren’t the only ones who are armed…oh…and my family is full of vets…some survived combat. They take freedom seriously. You may be in harms way…just a warning.
