First things first. Trump really did misspell Parade as ‘Perade’ in social media post. It was quickly fixed but people got screen shots.  Now to the main event. The epic showdown was ON! On the one side we had ‘The Donald’ assuming the mantle of “King.” (which is code for Generalissimo/Dictator) And his ‘huge, no one’s ever put on a show like this’ gross misuse of the Army marching troops, tanks and other cool staff past his stand on the south WH Lawn. In the other corner we had a couple thousand or so “No King” protests around the country. In cities and small towns. Every state including red ones.  It turned out we didn’t need counter-programming from the Pope. Freedom loving Americans whupped Trump’s fat butt!  This afternoon I can’t help but wonder if part of Trump has given up!

How bad was it for Trump? Well, the coming storm didn’t include lightning so the parade and music/fireworks show afterwards took place. However Team Trump sensed things wouldn’t be nearly as grand as predicted and moved the start of the parade up a half hour to try and keep people from leaving early when the drizzle might turn into serious rain. It didn’t work. The stands along the parade route were like a Trump inauguration – LOTS of empty space. On the mall itself as images from The Irish Star shows the “crowd” was at best underwhelming. Check it out and have some laughs scrolling down through the images. Ah, but a Porky Orange Pig Trump says, that’s not all folks!

Melania padded her bank account by making another appearance with Trump this week, this time sitting next to him on the reviewing stand. And nodding off into a nap. The jokes about her ‘sleeping with Trump for the first time in years’ are priceless.  How furious will she be when she sees herself mocked that way?  Let’s just say her appearance fees will go WAY up. Even funnier was that onetime Wannabe Princess Ivanka (nor Jared) bothered to show up. I wouldn’t mention it except lately there seems to be some talking nice about daddy from her. However, the apple of ‘Melanie’s’ eye, Trump son Barron wasn’t there either!  Maybe like mom he now demands an appearance fee. And tuition to NYU and a suite of rooms at his father’s Trump Tower condo doesn’t cover it!

But to quote late-night pitchmen, There’s MORE!  You’ve read that during the hiatus between Trump administrations crowds at his signature rallies weren’t as big. They also weren’t as enthusiastic and over and over part of the story was so many people getting BORED and leaving early. Well guess what? As Newsweek reports rumors of the far smaller than advertised crowd on the National Mall across from the WH were true. Better still there is proof:

NBC Washington reported that “a large number of people” made an early exit, with its journalists capturing on video a “logjam” as spectators attempted to leave the secured area. The outlet said that the event’s heavy security restricted the Mall’s secure zone to two exits.

It seems people didn’t even want to wait around for Trump’s speech!  What I find funny is that there were only TWO exits from the restricted area. It’s almost like…organizers wanted to keep the crowd trapped there!  Given the history of his crowds getting bored and leaving THIS even was one where there would be hell to pay if the crowd left early. Trump might not have been able to afford a huge security contingent at his rallies to keep people penned in but we the taxpayers had to pick up the the tab for yesterday so adequate fencing was available to make those who wanted to leave put up with some sh*t for doing so!  The Newsweek story goes on to report:

NBC Washington reported that “a large number of people” made an early exit, with its journalists capturing on video a “logjam” as spectators attempted to leave the secured area. The outlet said that the event’s heavy security restricted the Mall’s secure zone to two exits.

The New York Times’ White House correspondent Shawn McCreesh reported that “hordes of people” streamed east across the mall to leave, a report which Raw Story said was posted before Trump and Vice President JD Vance had begun to deliver remarks.

“Where’s everybody going?” a man next to McCreesh said, according to the reporter.

John Ismay, also with the Times, described the crowd and parade as “pretty listless and low-energy,” adding that Trump apparel was far more prevalent than Army hats and shirts among attendees.

Well, there’s plenty of coverage detailing the event, sometimes poking fun at Trump if not outright mocking the spectacle.  On the other hand thousands of No King protests took place around the country. Trump had tens of thousands in DC. At most perhaps 100k asshats showed up, for a while at least. Multiple cities had protests that numbered in the thousands and in some cases tens of thousands. Add all that up and I don’t think it’s a stretch to say over a MILLION  people demonstrated AGAINST Trump yesterday. Yes, there were some clashes with LE and deployment of tear gas but overall it was peaceful protests.  No Kings stomped all over Trump’s parade.

The interesting thing to me I already mentioned. Unlike after Trump’s first inauguration we didn’t see an angry WH Press Secretary shoved out in a rumple, ill fitting outfit SCREAMING about the biggest crowd and audience in the ‘history of forever.’ Just one weak-ass tweet from Steven Cheung. Hell, while his claim of 250k ‘patriots’ was laughable on the face of it (clearly it wasn’t even  half that number) he didn’t make a far larger crowd size claim.  It’s almost like Trump and his people are proverbially ‘Out Of F**ks To Give.’

Not to worry Donald. You can console yourself with having face-planted your birthday bash by sending out Secret Service agents to bigly-name fast food outlets so you’ll have a choice of ‘hamberders’ to chow down on.  And who knows? The other heads of State at the G7 might decide to cheer you up, presenting you with a huge gold-painted cardboard crown emblazoned with the words BURGER KING. With logos of various well known burger outlets instead of jewels.

I’ll admit to having been seriously worried about No King protests being attacked by Guard troops in multiple states. Missouri and Texas Governors had activated their Guards and Trump as you know currently controls California’s. The whole idea was to force confrontations with protesters that would give him an excuse to invoke the Insurrection Act.  Despite some skirmishes No Kings protesters didn’t follow the script and kept things mostly peaceful.

I can’t help but wonder if Trump seemed deflated and stuck to the scripted fifteen minute speech because he learned he did NOT have the excuse he needed to, using the Army and that godawful display as a backdrop claim he “had no choice but to invoke the Insurrection Act.”  The wind was taken from his sails.  He had his ‘mojo’ taken away. Or, as depicted in an episode of South Park ‘lost his goo…”
