Maybe Vladimir made a phone call and begged Donald to play nice? I rule nothing out, as off the walls as things are in Washington these days. But even if it was Trump’s own idea to make nice nice with Rand Paul, it just goes to show how desperate he is for Paul’s vote. And he will get it on some version of the OBBBA bill but not the one that is written. That’s the bitter pill that Trump doesn’t want to swallow, the fact that his legislative baby is deformed and will not be the Olympic athlete of bills. In fact, it’s going to be erased from the drawing board and the only question is when.
How cute that Trump thinks complimenting Rand will win him over. That only works on Trump.

“The toughest vote.” Oh yeah. That rumbling you hear is John McCain rolling in his grave. And as to Rand Paul and Vladimir Putin, that’s my source, John McCain. There was a major spat between McCain and Paul (one of many) back in 2017. The topic on the Senate floor was the admission of Montenegro into NATO. Paul opposed that. John McCain took to the floor and said, “The senator from Kentucky is working for Vladimir Putin.” Paul got totally pissed and stormed out of the chamber. The next day he posted on social media that McCain was a “warmonger” and suggested term limits for senators, the inference being that McCain was senile. Those were the days.
So have a good time at the “BIG” White House party, Rand. I still can’t get over the fact that Trump’s corruption is okay but a picnic invitation is the dealbreaker, but evidently that’s how these things work. It should come as zero surprise. We all observed how for a few brief moments Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham and Kevin McCarthy were in their right minds on January 6, disparaging Trump for what he had wrought — and then a few days later, lap dog time. Complete submission, once again.
The Republican party, leadership you can depend on. Remember when that was their tagline? It still is, only the meaning has changed wildly.
