I wonder if Trump has any speechwriters or if they all just gave up. And you can’t blame them. One of Trump’s college professors described him as “the goddamnest dumbest student I ever had,” and that’s entirely plausible. Trump went to the University of Pennsylvania and brags about having graduated from the Wharton School of Business but I tend to believe the nasty rumors about him having paid somebody to take the SAT and his exams for him. How else to explain how the man flat out doesn’t know anything, even a cursory level of American and world history? Here he is again, providing fodder for late night comics and people in other countries to shake their heads.

The tweet ends, “that won the war. Without us, you’d all be speaking German right now. Maybe a little Japanese thrown in.” Actually, Donald, we were allies with Japan during WWI. It’s this basic, fundamental ignorance of Trump’s which makes him (and us) the laughing stock of the world.
It’s sad that America has gone downhill like it has. We used to have an educational system that was enviable and we were a cutting edge country culturally and scientifically. We still haven’t entirely lost our edge but we have stratified our culture. Now there is a class of well educated people and a vast class of low educated and flat out uneducated people.
The tragic part is that the occupant of the Oval Office is one of the flat out uneducated. That we have never seen before in our history. We’ve seen presidents from all walks of life, law, business, acting, you name it, but we have never had a reality TV clown who doesn’t know basic American history and has a vocabulary of 200 words.
And expect it all to get much worse. Trump’s not getting any younger and his medical issues are not likely to resolve, i.e., expect the dementia to become more glaringly evident as the days go by.
As the great Bluto Blutarsky said, “Did we surrender when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor”?
As so often happens those (including us) who won WWI failed to win the peace that followed. Books have been written about how the draconian measures adopted created fertile ground for the rise of someone like Hitler. What gets relatively little attention is that Japan was an important ally, especially their Navy and it’s ability to control the waters north of it. Yet when the powers that were sat down to ‘divvy up the spoils’ Japan’s delegation was pointedly and rudely treated. Many of those junior to mid level officers would never forget or forgive the insult and that country as a whole took the diplomatic slap in the face personally. Japan vowed to become a world power and while countries like ours assumed they had no capacity to do so they built a formidable military. Both for land and Naval warfare. Hitler understood Japan better than we did, and that they’d fight to the death which they did in battle after battle in the Pacific.
Anyway the average American doesn’t know this any more than most knew it in the years before Japan attacked us, drawing us into WWII. Trump of course knows none of it and wouldn’t care if he did.
Simply because Trump is a theatrical idiot that has the mental capacity of a used soggy teabag.
