President Donald Trump is getting raked by political analysts for his newest utterly mystifying statement about Vladimir Putin’s bombing of Ukrainian civilians in cities. With Hall of Fame irony, Trump finally found it in himself to actually criticize Putin – something everyone has been awaiting for almost ten years now. Yet, in so doing, Trump revealed just how dim he can be and his blinding arrogance and self-centered nature. In short, it sounds as though Trump cannot believe that Putin would do this to him (Trump) because he always had a “very good relationship with Vladimir Putin.” It sounds as though Trump believes that their personal relationship should have stopped Putin from bombing Ukraine.

In what has to be one of the dumbest posts ever – one belying just how fkt the U.S. may be on the international scene, Trump posits that Putin changed from being loyal to Trump and thus wanting to end the Ukrainian war to a reckless war criminal. Per a report in Rawstory:

“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him,” Trump wrote. “He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever. I’ve always said that he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a piece of it, and maybe that’s proving to be right, but if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!”

Putin has been bombing cities and civilians for a long time. It is breathlessly stupid to think that Vlad might moderate his goals to accommodate “a very good relationship” with Trump. The post is valuable in undeniably demonstrating Trump’s approach to the world. Trump sees himself as the King Of the United States, and thus a good relationship with the King means that Putin is good to the United States. Trump skips over the troubled historic relationship between Russia and the U.S. to make it all about him.

The net went apoplectic in its criticism. Again, as noted by Rawstory:

Writer Michael Freeman reposted Trump’s statement and wrote, “This is a very bad time to have a very stupid president.”

PatriotTakes, which says it is dedicated to “researching and monitoring” right-wing extremism “and other threats to democracy,” responded with, “Trump now says Putin ‘has gone absolutely crazy’ bombing cities, blames Zelenskyy and Biden.”

Ex-GOP strategist Jeff Timmer chimed in, saying, “Jesus H F—— Cream of Wheat for Brains Christ. Trump’s brain is a black hole singularity that sucks in stupidity and ignorance, crushes and distills them to their purest, unadulterated, and most potent form, then combines them with infinite avarice, cruelty, and sociopathy.”

We don’t expect presidents to know everything. We do expect them to get advice from experts in the field – one can be certain that the White House has access to meticulous study of Putin’s personality, his goals, his pattern of behavior, etc. – all of which should have informed Trump long ago that Putin is a killer, a war criminal, a president with no regard for human life or right and wrong as applied to his goals.

That the American president believed he could charm Putin into cooperation with respect to Ukraine is humiliating. At this point, Trump supporters can no longer deny the transactional nature of Trump’s international relations. What does this say about Trump’s beliefs about “our” relationship with Qatar and Saudi Arabia? That they are dependent on Trump owing them favors because they are so good to him? Think it through, that’s exactly the thought process put forth above.

This is highly embarrassing. It does make the American president simply look stupid. And it really shouldn’t matter who is president when it comes to war and bombing civilians (Even Trump is condemning it strongly), we should want the U.S. to sound resolved, sophisticated, and fully in control – leading with strength.

Just awful.

Zoomers, we are always in need of donations. It’s been an especially rough month, and my own health has not been great these past few weeks, which just adds to the frustration. Anything you can spare will be immensely appreciated. And thank you to all who have donated generously already. Ursula

  1. Yet he was preferred over Harris because he’s better, smarter, wiser less racist

What do we think would have to happen for US to remove him from power? How many of us would have to suffer and die because white men (and most of their women) would rather have any white man in charge?

  2. Any chance the scales are falling from his eyes enough to lead to restarting supplies to Ukraine? What can be done by Ukraine congress people and others to nudge him towards that end? Putin is trying hard, what more must he do?

  3. “It sounds as though Trump believes that their personal relationship should have stopped Putin from bombing Ukraine.” Yes, because all Trump is thinking about is the minerals deal. He’s mad at Putin because Putin is escalating the war and making it even less likely that he will be able to get that mineral exploitation going any time soon. That’s why Trump is angry at Putin. “I thought he was my FRIEND!” Totally delusional.
