Rick Wilson spoke up yesterday on Substack and he got suspended, if not outright banned, from Twitter. Not that that is the tragedy it used to be. The Twitter/X platform was at one point the community bulletin board for the world and much cherished by journalists and writers of all stripes in particular, who could get their views out into the world at the speed of light.
But Twitter/X has fallen and it’s not a big deal to be thrown off that platform. Not like it used to be. I mention this because three years ago, when Musk bought the platform, it was a tragic occurrence. People were extremely upset and with good cause. A platform that powerful had been purchased by the world’s richest man, who intended to use it to bad purpose.
Now Musk has done just that, turned Twitter/X into a cesspool, and it doesn’t have a fraction of the power that it did. And this is the way that Tesla is going as well. People who own Teslas are trading them in right and left and the stock is plummeting.
We can fight this battle against Trump and Musk. We can fight it on economic grounds. There may well be a second Civil War in this country but it won’t be waged in the fields with muskets and cannons, but rather with dollars and markets.
That is the power that the people have. Musk and Trump are both vulnerable now. This is the time to take the line and hold it. Musk and Trump have run over moral boundaries and they will continue to do so. But when there are financial consequences to their doing so — that will get their attention. That’s the key, the secret sauce. Hit ’em in the pocket book.
