In a move that simply screams “privatize profits” while socializing all loses, the Trump administration looks to be about to issue an order allowing it to seize full control of the United States Postal Service. Now, one has to be careful in analyzing the move because, though there is no doubt that Trump is doing this to get the service into prying hands, but the USPS is technically not a full governmental entity. Per Grok:

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is a bit of a hybrid—it’s not fully an independent non-government entity, nor is it directly under the federal government’s day-to-day control.

Think of it like a government-owned corporation with a public mission—independent in operations but tethered to federal oversight. Posts on X often call it “quasi-governmental,” which fits: it’s not privatized like FedEx, but it’s not a standard bureaucracy either.

Be that as it may, it sure seems as though Donald Trump wants the bring the USPS fully under his control at least temporarily, but only then to be moved to be privatized. The privatization aspect is extrapolated and speculation, but Trump is busy cutting every other aspect of government, why would he want to add this to the executive branch? I suspect he does not, he merely needs to add his full control in order to then dispose of it as he wants, undoubtedly to someone he deems worthy. Perhaps Bezos at Amazon would be very very interested? From a report in The Washington Post:

President Donald Trump is preparing to dissolve the leadership of the U.S. Postal Service and absorb the independent mail agency into his administration, potentially throwing the 250-year-old mail provider and trillions of dollars of e-commerce transactions into turmoil.

Trump is expected to issue an executive order as soon as this week to fire the members of the Postal Service’s governing board and place the agency under the control of the Commerce Department and Secretary Howard Lutnick, according to six people familiar with the plans, who spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of reprisals.

Again, even if one knew nothing about Donald Trump and had little reason to sense any corrupt motive, this would stick out enough to be suspicious. Trump is busy cutting, cutting, cutting, and then takes a massive organization and puts it directly under the authority of the Commerce Secretary? Why is this one service so different from literally all others?

Make no mistake: Trump's plan is to privatized the mail so his billionaire buddies can profit. Trump expected to take control of USPS, fire postal board, officials saywww.washingtonpost.com/business/202…

Trump is cutting NASA for the love of God, but now he wants to expand government involvement in the Postal Service? Not buying it is for legitimate purposes. Meanwhile, the Postal Service is gearing up and not taking this lying down. They may have a winning legal argument, unlike most DOGE cuts. After all, they don’t start out completely within Trump’s authority so where does he get the power to bring them in?

The board is planning to fight Trump’s order, three of those people told The Washington Post. In an emergency meeting Thursday, the board retained outside counsel and gave instructions to sue the White House if the president were to remove members of the board or attempt to alter the agency’s independent status.

This will get very interesting. Trump is likely to win, there is likely enough of the USPS left under government control so as to force it into Trump’s arms. From there, though – watch how quickly it is shopped out. Again, keep an eye on Bezos as the most obvious possible candidate to “win” in this round.

Friends, donations have dried up this week and we haven’t gotten any new subscribers. If you’ve already helped, thank you so very much. If you can help a bit, it would be appreciated. We are in a slough of despair with the generalized Democratic depression on top of Q1 revenue rates being the lowest of all year. Thank you. Ursula
