Do you know how hard you have to work at it to get Canadians to be downright rude to you on sight? This is one of the most difficult challenges on the globe today, find a way to get the famously polite and upstanding Canadians mad at you such that they’re just another mean drunk. Fortunately, if you’re a MAGA – American, you have one of the world’s hardest workers when it comes to pissing other people off, and continually referencing your country as “The 51st State” along with calling the people’s leader “Gov. Trudeau” (Nice work, Ace, way to get Conservative Canadians siding with Justin Trudeau for like, the first time – ever, in defense of their country), and Trump seems to have enough in the tank to get Canadians furious as they were when they booed the American national anthem today during the Four Nations Hockey tournament, one in which pro-players from each of four different nations, the U.S., Canada, Sweden, and Russia. all play a game instead of a regular all-star game.

Anyway, it got going early and you can see how the MAGA mighty see the issue break down below:

Again, it is true that Canadians visiting the Boston Garden were booing the American national anthem, this – after Canadians in Montreal booing the Star Spangled Banner on Thursday night, and that will get fights, on the ice and up in the stands (“Thug” sport, if one wants to use racially loaded terms that would be used if there were any black people in the NHL… There are a couple). But again, Canadians are tired of being trolled. They don’t like tariffs (Why are Canadians more conservative than Trump supporters?), they don’t like hearing about being anyone’s 51st anything, and they don’t like seeing their PM called “Guv” like some Brit.

Canada‘s WestJet says interest from Canada in flying to the U.S. has dropped 25% in recent weeks. Air Canada announced that they will reduce flight capacity to the US starting in March.

It isn’t that complicated.

Massive, loud boos during the U.S. national anthem at the USA-Canada hockey game in Montreal tonight.I love Canada

Meanwhile, per NBC News:

Just after the puck dropped, and two seconds into the game, Matthew Tkachuk of the U.S. squad and Brandon Hagel of Team Canada dropped their gloves and went at it, broadcast video of the game showed. Then Brady Tkachuk, brother of Matthew, and Canada’s Sam Bennett, a forward who plays for the Florida Panthers, went at it.

Oh, well – that explains a lot. For those who don’t follow anything in hockey, just know that if you ever read the name “Tkachuk” and it is not followed by news of a fight then someone just died and that’s not good. Here we have the situation entirely as one hockey fan might expect, Keith or Matt get their name in the paper, someone started a fight, it’s all normal.

Before the puck had dropped and the players had scuffled, it was the Canadian fans who showed their displeasure with Team USA, booing during “The Star-Spangled Banner” and as the American players were introduced.

Only due to the American president’s commitment and indefatiguable nature, such that he won’t slow down on the whole Canadian insult industry, thus keeping Canadians in a fury, thus coming down to Boston with a bit of shin on their foreheads…

No. This wasn’t a good look, not for Canada, not for the NHL, not for the Tkachuk brothers, not anyone – it should’ve been about the world’s best hockey because that is one thing that the U.S. and Canada do share, the world’s best league with the world’s greatest players straddling the world’s longest international border. It should be a celebration. Maybe next year, if someone will just calm down and Canadians go back to being Canadian…

Anyway, this is not a healthy situation. No – it is not a family fight. We are not family, not in the normal sense. We are neighbors, and good ones, at that. In any real fight, we’d be alongside, it says something that our nastiest stuff comes amidst sporting rituals, and nowhere else. But we need to stay that way. We are neighbors, that’s it – and the one neighbor is starting to think he’s a little big for his britches… Maybe time for the Prime Minister to Speak to the Minister of the 11th Province, see what might be done about this noisy needy one. Time to get him to shut up.
