Sitting in a restaurant early in the evening on Saturday, it occurred to me that Sheryl Crow had some demons to excise and so it’s little wonder that she set about to do so this last weekend and perhaps she has them maxed out – she damn sure made an effort.
Clearly, she could no longer continue to drive or even own her Tesla Roadster, not with Elon Musk out there being all “president” and stuff. She definitely doesn’t like Donald Trump. And then she had that problem with that MAGA guy, the once known as “Kid Rock” come Bob Ritchie, the MAGA musician who is just slightly more socially acceptable than Ted Nugent, the musician with whom Crow remains painfully close at least symbolically, all due to the near perfection of the duet sung with Ritchie – “Picture.” Perhaps there’s never been a duet so hauntingly beautiful and beautifully “cast” – so to speak, among personalities. The liberal Crow, the conservative, Richtie… so – yes, she had some issues to work through.
And she did make progress:
Singer Sheryl Crow sold her Tesla and donated the proceeds to NPR as a way to stick it to “President Elon Musk” and the Trump administration, sharing a farewell video on social media. In an Instagram post aimed at Musk, Trump, and DOGE’s slashing of federal jobs and agencies, Crow said she had sold her electric vehicle in protest.
“My parents always said… you are who you hang out with,” the 63-year-old wrote. “There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla.”
Yes, well done! Can she make it even better? Pull something out of a hat, go all rockstar on us, Sheryl… Come on… Yes!! NPR!
Crow added, “Money donated to @npr, which is under threat by President Musk, in hopes that the truth will continue to find its way to those willing to know the truth.”
Now that is how one does it. Cut all ties, do it with finality, do it with some “elan” over screwing over Elon, and do not reject the beauty that is “Picture” – embrace it. She’s never going to want this to go away, it’s too good. She did all she could, now one just gets the best live version possible (And there aren’t that many), and celebrate it, a hauntingly beautiful duet no matter who sang what or voted for who or when. (Starts at 2:50)
Yes, well done. Ditch the cars, ditch the candidates. Keep the damned song, we can’t help but love it and won’t compromise our principles on that. I won’t, anyway. Have a great weekend.
Bonus: For those of you who prefer the video, it is a decent one – they once looked cute together, it’s down below. I should say, however, this video needs to go. We need to keep the song, but for the same reason, this video probably isn’t long for this world. It endangers the song.

Thanks Jason. Enjoyed the song. For me the hardest part of our current situation is the disillusionment with our fellow Americans, some of whom were once an integral part of our lives.
