Leader Jeffries Brings the Heat: ‘Don’t ever lecture America Again!’

I’ve spent the last day trying to calm down from the appalling news that Trump pardoned ALL the January 6 CRIMINALS. Those who attacked law enforcement, trashed the Capitol Building itself and tried to prevent a simple Constitutional process of certifying election results from taking place. All to try and keep Trump in power. These are convicted FELONS and while handful got weighty prison sentences not a one got as much time as judges should have given them. I watched it all happen and you did too. Yet Trump has pardoned them all. Democrats have been in a funk since the election and badly need leadership to start showing some serious fight. Well, Democratic House Leader Hakeem Jeffries has just stepped up. Not for the last time I think. Now we need to see others join him in being forceful.

As this article from The Hill explains Republicans are all smiling over the mass pardons.  Some are outright celebrating but the bulk of them just want to deflect from the subject so as not to offend Trump and risk his wrath. Gutless pieces of crap, every single one of them as far as I’m concerned. When they oh so piously placed their hands on some bible and swore to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic they didn’t mean a goddam word of it!  It’s clear they don’t care about the Constitution and that given a choice between following it or whatever Trump tells them they will follow Trump. And the Constitution be damned.

More to the point, and what Jeffries was driving at is their hypocrisy about law and order and support of law enforcement. Their whole ‘Back the Blue’ schtick. Trump has spouted the same kind of bullshit about supporting law enforcement over the years as every other Republican. However, on a day when their physical safety and even lives were under severe threat and LE, including and especially Capitol Police they had interacted with regularly fought to defend them they now have revealed the truth. That those law enforcement folks who risked lives and limbs (and lives were lost, and roughly 150 sustained injuries that forced them into retirement) to protect them don’t matter. They never did.

So, Hakeen Jeffries has put them on blast and he was blunt in his language. He knows the GOP will be pissed and he doesn’t care. Again, I say contact his office and encourage him to keep it up. Also contact other Democrats and tell THEM to speak up. At least in support of his remarks but better yet with their own verbal blasts at the GOP. Jeffries showed all Democrats on Capitol Hill how to do it:

“House Republicans are celebrating pardons issued to a bloodthirsty mob that violently assaulted police officers on January 6, 2021. What happened to backing the Blue?” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) posted Tuesday on Threads.

“Far right extremists have become the party of lawlessness and disorder,” he continued. “Don’t ever lecture America again.”

“About anything.”

For its part the GOP is, with the media’s help of course trying to play the ‘Joe Biden’s pardons’ card and in particular citing the one of  his son Hunter. It was to be expected that crazies in the House would parrot Trump and point fingers at Biden but even Senate Majority Leader John Thune got in on the ‘Trump wouldn’t have gone so far if not for Biden’ bandwagon:

Many Republicans are approaching that dilemma by deflection, pointing to former President Biden’s decision to grant pardons to his son, who was facing multiple felony charges, and other figures whom he said would be targeted unfairly by Trump’s Justice Department. That list included additional Biden family members; Anthony Fauci, a top health official during the COVID pandemic; and the House lawmakers who investigated Trump’s role in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.

“We said all along that Biden opened the door on this,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) told reporters Tuesday.

First of all Trump had said plenty of times those convicted of J6 crimes and were sitting in jail were “hostages” that he’d free. Recent talk about ‘case by case’ and/or separating out violent protesters from others was a smokescreen. Only the serious cases involving violence and/or vandalism got prosecuted in the first place!  Trump had a lot of his MAGAs grumbling over him not pardoning everyone four years ago. He no longer needs their votes but he DOES still want their money. A mass pardon will keep the donations and purchases of Trumpty MAGA gear a coming.

Let’s get to the specific person this is really all about. Having failed to derail Joe Biden by driving his son to commit suicide the GOP isn’t giving up. They never will.  They will keep citing him in particular in the days ahead. It’s a disgusting thing to equate what the J6 rioters did with what Hunter Biden did. Let’s compare. The rioters destroyed barricades, attacked police with pepper and even bear spray to give them room to do so, used clubs and even flagpoles (some with an American flag!) to strike LE, broke windows and doors to gain entrance to the Capitol and did more damage (and attacking of LE) once inside!  They even pissed and smeared feces on the walls!

Hunter Biden? His crimes were done with a pen. He filled out and signed tax forms that shorted the government on what he owed. (When the IRS nailed him via the typical Civil process he paid it all back with interest in case anyone forgot. Case closed until Trump wanted Hunter prosecuted criminally) Hunter also, with a pen filled out a federally mandated gun purchase form and lied on one question. Then signed it and paid for his handgun. That charge is NEVER prosecuted unless a person later commits a crime with that or another gun! Funny how all the gun rights goobers who have long fought that form and that particular question (raising Constitutional questions) didn’t utter a peep!

What the GOP is doing is an utter shuck. A complete false equivalency.  They damn well know it. However Trumpty wants the history of J6 rewritten and even Republicans who know what Trump’s up to is a huge load of crap are afraid to speak up. Worse, so are most of those who profess to be journalists.  The ONLY way to break through and apply brakes to this is to speak out loud and proud like Leader Jeffries has done.

We have needed a bright, energetic and bold leader who has great ‘camera presence’ to take the bull by the horns. And create a freaking BULLHORN. Kamala Harris is certainly capable but she’s in an awkward position to be doing so and will be for a while. Biden? Same thing.  Schumer? No way. He’s never had the kind of “juice” needed for this type of thing. Pelosi? She didn’t just stick a knife in Joe Biden’s legacy but opened a gaping wound in her own.

But we have Jeffries. I’ve been hoping at some point he’d speak up and he just threw a 100mph fastball at the GOP’s head. He, and others need to keep throwing them. So again, contact his office and thank him. Then contact other Democrats and say it’s time to follow his lead!
