100 years old. That’s a DAMN good run. And he got to vote for Kamala in the presidential race. I missed getting to see him in Atlanta (bad weather, streets closed around the Carter Center (LOTS of streets closed), abysmal parking, mile and a half walk, and long, long lines, with my cane) I missed the eulogies on his arrival in Washington and missed the funeral today. Thank heavens it was recorded and is up on Youtube. Suffice it to say I’m pretty upset with myself. I wanted to see this. I wanted to pay my respects while watching. But no. However, the inlaws and I will be going to Plains, GA later on this year to pay our respects. So it’s just “not yet” instead of “No.”
I don’t remember much about him except the peanut farmer jokes. I only vaguely remember the hostage crisis. I think I was in high school at the time, worried about going to the Prom, order yearbooks, what college(s) do I need to work to get into. High School Female stuff. Heh, I never even had a boyfriend till college. Too much gymnastics and I didn’t want to go with the group always smoking weed and I wasn’t popular.
But this isn’t about me. This is about Jimmy. I’ve found out so much more about just Jimmy, and a lot from Denis, another Politizoom writer, so much information I didn’t know and wish I did. The Carter Center alone was a big thing. Then so much was for Habitat for Humanity. It dismays me that I didn’t know. He was ridiculed and “talked down to”. He was ignored. Yet he just let it slip off his back and kept on keeping on. He DID take care of the hostage situation, but they didn’t announce it until the day of Reagan’s swearing in. That’s some bull$h*t.
There was a deliberate effort to make him look bad in the White House and Presidency. There was a deliberate effort to keep him out of the chance for a second term. Congress went to efforts to not pay attention to the good things he wanted for the country. Congress was out of control during his term. Everything was a deliberate attempt to make him fail. And that makes me mad, mad on his behalf, not that it would do any good then or now.
We currently have a president-elect who is going to destroy our country. He has so little of what Jimmy had. There is no grace and too much “ME”. There is no inspiration on this man, who was elected a second time for promises he would not keep. There is no brain in his head because it’s all about the power and not so much for the duties, the legal duties he is sworn to follow. He’s an orange cat under his façade and NEVER gets the one braincell that is passed around.
Jimmy, I hardly knew ye. I wish I knew more. I wish I’d been more aware. I wish so many things that I can’t say or do now. But I will pay my respects and will have to go with that. Rest peacefully with Rosalynn, and remember all the two of you did together and how you changed the world.

As the line from Big Yellow Taxi says:
Don’t it always seem to go; That you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone
Well, the Big Yellow Taxi took away Carter but he left so much of himself behind in his work that he will live on through others. More so now that he’s getting some of the due he should have gotten all along.
