Begin rant. And this one isn’t fun, not this time. It’s not going to be about the country. It’s going to be about those in power, in government, and/or rich. Mostly rich white guys. It’s Muskrat and Rama-Swindler deciding what can and can’t stay in government. It’s about the end of life as we used to know it. Lower prices? Ha. Higher tariff on incoming products means higher prices for the customer. Now some companies are trying to get what they can before the insanity happens, so we might have a bit of a reprieve, but even that is going to run out. So even groceries are going up. Anything we get from China that’s being slapped with a tariff increase is going to get slapped right back on products we send to them. So, really, it doesn’t matter what is going where.
Prices are going to go up. And up. And up. Inflation will accelerate up. And up. And up. Buy a house? Oh hell no, not now. They’re not going to be affordable until you have the money to “show me the money”. My husband and I will be in an apartment the rest of our lives. I’m already handicapped. And I will just have to do the best I can, the best WE can, because not going to have a house. Ever. It should be interesting if I get to the point I have severe trouble with stairs. Hell, even if we could GET a house, we can’t afford to move. So, honestly it’s just one slap after another.
But I digress. This is about the population of the United States that is NOT in government and/or white and rich (well, with the exception of a few like Rama-Swindler) people, mostly males. We just happen to be a few of many. So, yea, houses getting built but houses that are $$$$$$$$$$ because only a few people can afford them. Apartment rents that will squeeze everyone tighter and tighter. Food that costs the proverbial arm and 2 legs, not just one leg these days. Prescription medicines that will continue to be more and more expensive, even for those on Medicare and Medicaid, where a few caring people are working to keep prices of some things, like insulin, where you don’t have a choice on money because it’s something you HAVE to have, down.
And those on Social Security? That depend on that to LIVE? Too bad so sad. Our unhoused population exploded up 18% last year. It’s going to explode again this year when people just can’t afford to live somewhere anymore, when they’ve run out of places that can help, when the places that COULD help have run out of money because costs keep going up. And up. And up.
Let’s add in Covid, which is still quite happily bopping around the US and having just far too much fun mutating. I just had a family member catch it. Think about what that will do AGAIN to people who can’t afford the necessities, including a place to live. Of course, that could possibly make the Mango Messiah happy because he’ll think that they’re all illegal immigrants and he won’t have to spend the money and effort to deport them. But they won’t be. They’ll be people. PEOPLE. It won’t matter. And there’ll be bodies. LOTS of bodies. What will they do with them? Something as humiliating as just …. burning them? What will this do to our doctors and nurses and caregivers who barely managed to survive the first round?
I can’t even guess to see beyond barely the next few months on how the US will change. It’s not going to be good. And it’s going to hurt ALL of us besides the privileged few, and THEY won’t care as long as they get their money and everything they want. What do millions of people need, anyhow? There are always more. Or are there? End rant.

We moved in 2023. The house is just at peak of what we can afford. We squeeze by. I wanted a ranch outside the city, but they cost too.much. This is the best we could do, and then only via a GoFundMe page to.cover moving expenses and closing cost. I can still climb stairs at 75, which is good with the bathroom.and bedroom on the 2d floor, but a stairway away from.the kitchen, dining room, and living room. Not ideal, but better than our overpriced, tiny apt. in MA.
