I never was a major Beach Boys fan so it won’t be much of an effort to write them off.  If they want to give private concerts for Tangerine Palpatine, that’s up to them. They have not done as well as a lot of other bands of that era, they’ve been passe for quite some time, so maybe that explains how they end up with His Dorkship at his live-in freak show.

It is interesting to observe the “body language” of Donald and Melania. They’re in the same room, being in the same state is a mini miracle all its own, but does this look like they’re “together?” Let’s put it this way, I’ve been at office parties where somebody I loathed was in the room and I was physically more cozy with that person than this *couple* is.

Trump clearly does not want to get into the middle of the MAGA/Musk squabble and you can depend on that being the status quo going forward. Again, I repeat: Trump got what he wanted, which was a Get Out Of Jail card and that cost Elon Musk $277 million. Trump intends to cruise through the next four years, grifting as much as possible while making as little effort as possible to do so. “Policy” as that word is understood, will be up to DOGE and J.D. Vance and you see how well that’s going.

Trump doesn’t care if there’s a GOP civil war going on in the House or if MAGA is incensed against Musk and Ramaswamy. That’s their problem. Trump has no big problems anymore, so he’s going to just coast and let other people handle the reins. And as was said in the first few days after the election, inaction and a frozen, stonewalled government may be the best case scenario we can hope for. And it looks like that’s what’s on the way.

Anyhow, supposedly Brian Wilson is not there at Mar-a-Lago, it’s only Mike Love with a cover band, which makes sense to me. I thought the Beach Boys hated Trump like the rest of the musical world.

Yes, that makes a lot of sense. Very few people in the musical world can stand Trump. Musicians as a whole tend to be very liberal because musical talent comes from everywhere. It doesn’t know gender, color, class boundaries. And that’s why most musicians can’t stand the racist, sexist elitist Trump, because to be a musician is to embrace all kinds of people as long as they have talent.

Enjoy, Donald. You’re going to have to take a stand on the MAGA civil war at some point.

  1. Trump is so senile that anyone can lead him around by the nose, they just have to get his ear and make him think it was his idea. Suddenly he loves H1B visas instead of hating them. Musk got his ear. Not so much against vaccines as Kennedy? McConnell’s speech reached him. We have a damn committee of babysitters for a Chief Executive.

    • You’re absolutely right. And this is how it was in the first Trump administration. He had babysitters. Mike Pompeo used to babysit Trump. So did John Kelly. This is nothing new.

  2. The scump is just the figurehead and everybody who isn’t maga knows it. Whatever “policies” come out of his administration are dictated by the authors of the 2025 and the rag tag gang of unAmerican bs artists he’s putting in place. They’re all there for the grift just like he is. He will be bought over and over again and the grifting won’t stop until he dies.

As for the so called Beach Boys, they are as irrelevant as an 8-track tape player.

    • That clip was so short but it sounded to me like the beat was off. This “cover band” may not have it going on. Now one band from that era which is still going strong is The Ventures. They are beloved in Japan because the Japanese have a six-note scale and the sound of The Ventures’ instrumentals appeals to a Japanese ear. They had an incredible drummer, too. He’s gone now. His name escapes me for the moment, but he was the best.

      • Ursula…are you saying you didn’t listen to Good Vibrations, God Only Knows, or Don’t Worry Baby, in the early sixties??? Brian was, and will remain a musical genius…undone by depression and other mental health problems. I guess you didn’t like California Girls. They embodied the surfer culture of southern California in the early sixties. The song Don’t Worry Baby is used to great effect in the movie Deja Vu, with Danzel Washington playing a detective that uses high tech to transport himself back a few days to stop a terrorist planning to blow a crowded ferry, and to save a woman he fell for watching in the videos of the recent past. Once Brian declined, they became essentially a bar band in my book. I’m not surprised at how far the mediocre members have fallen. That band is NOT THE BEACH BOYS 1961-1970.

  3. What 60s headliners still perform?
    The Rolling Stones
    Bruce as prints teen
    John Fogerty
    Leonard Sighted
    Billy Joel
Elton John who no longer can because he’s gone blind
    Paul McCartney and Wings
    Eric Clapton
    Santana
    The Temptations
The Writers ( heard them in Tokyo with a standing room only crowd)
    Bob Dylan

I like the, original Beach Boys. Good, bouncy, happy driving music. You don’t take them seriously,; you just dance!
