Bonus points if you can identify the original song from the lyric I used!

The news was not being too helpful today for interesting things to write about. Then I found something in my email I had somehow missed and boom, here we are!

The GOP is looking at a possible “Doomsday Scenario”.

Soooooo they are supposed to elect a new Speaker for the House on January 3, 2025. But Mike Johnson staying Speaker is by no means a done deal. So how much time will it take to vote in a new person if someone else thinks they should be in the position? (I’m honestly not sure if anyone is that insane to go for it.)

Well, it took 5, yes, FIVE days to elect a new Speaker a couple of years ago when they booted Kevin out. That’s a problem because the election is supposed to be certified on January 6. That would put the process *at least* to January 7. Can’t certify the election if the voting process for Speaker goes on that long. That’s a major problem. And if it goes past January 7, there’s also no telling how much longer it will be. Me? I’ll find it to be extremely funny because I’m mean that way. If you’ll bring the drinks, I’ll bring the popcorn.

So, the Republicans are caught between a rock and a hard place. It’s been reported that a lot of people, likely started by the assholes in the Freedom Caucus, say that Mikey is on his way out. But I can’t see anyone that’s “just” a Republican that has any better support across the entire House. At least Mikey is a known quantity, and you can’t please everyone all the time, or even part of the time.

This is going to be just plain ridiculous. Mr. Mikey has shown he can work with Democrats on drawing up bipartisan solutions, and decent ones, at that. And I’ll remind you that Mr. Jeffries has said that we (meaning Democrats, of course) are not propping up the other party anymore. They have to *work* with us to get things done. I wish we could get Hakeem in as Speaker. If we can get the House back, I think he’d be awesome! But I digress. Everyone’s hero, the Mango Messiah, is back in office again as the President, so it behooves them to get the new (or same) Speaker for the house in a day or two, not nearly a week! I will be laughing ever harder the more time it takes.

The last time was beyond stupid. Five. Days. And remember, Matty was the one who started the whole thing with booting Kevin out of the position. Frankly, since he resigned, I would think it was a big, big relief for Kevin. It got him out of the squabbles and lets him do other things instead of trying to mediate the children that are the Republican party.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

  1. Irony and her friend karma have had a good rest over the last years under Biden.

They needed it, they’ll both be busy over the next four with these morons.

And they’ll be bringing along their new German friend.

    Schadenfreude.

  2. 😃🎤🎶 “Sisters are doin’ it for themselves,” but in a positive, gettin’ stuff done way! I cannot imagine what Eurythmics lyrics would say about these clowns!

    • I think they summed it up in the song: “sweet dreams are made of this…who am I to disagree…” they revealed some people WANT to be abused. Welcome to the Devil’s playground…the good ole USA.

  3. The 12th Amendment of the Constitution requires Congress to certify the vote on January 6, but there’s nothing in the Constitution or House Rules of Procedure that requires a Speaker of the House for the process. As Rep. Jamie Raskin, a constitutional law expert who represents Maryland as a Democrat in the House said: “…the mandate of the Constitution cannot be derailed by House procedures or internal House political impasses. “The House rules cannot override the constitutional directives. And we just need to make sure that the Constitution is being followed.”

The new U.S. House members serving in the 119th Congress will be sworn in January 3, 2025, many of them newly elected hard-core Trumpist MAGATs. So even though the R House margin shrunk slightly from the 118th Congress, it will be loaded with even more extreme right wing sycophants. These same self-serving brainwashed idiots will be involved in voting for the new speaker on or after January 6th.
