I know that anything at this point is going to be seen as cold comfort, but try to be of good cheer. The fact is that Jack Smith has a tremendous amount of damaging information about Donald Trump and he’s not going to be intimidated into giving it to Jim Jordan and retreating into the night with his tail between his legs. His final report will be a major document. I know you’re thinking, “too little too late” but don’t say that until we get there. At least we are entitled to the truth of what Trump did, in all its variegated hues of evil, and Smith is going to give that to us. I don’t know what Merrick Garland is going to do, an attitude which remains unchanged and I’m not the only one wondering.

This paragraph from the NYT report is almost unbelievable in it degree of naivete, though it’s hard to suss out whether that’s the newspaper’s, Attorney General Merrick Garland’s, or both:

The big question now, assuming Mr. Smith finishes the report on his current schedule, is whether Mr. Garland will release the findings before he leaves office, or defer the release to the Trump team, which might not make its contents public.

The thrust of the NYT piece suggests Smith is trying not to leave anything to chance by finishing what is left of his work before the new administration takes over. He also seems to be intentionally averting a situation in which Trump gets to follow through on his promise to fire Smith within “two seconds” of taking office.

The paper of record of this country has no handle on the two foremost political scandals in all of American history — or more likely they do, they just won’t publish it. Let that one sink in, although I know your depression already has a depression of its own, just like mine. But let’s take hope where we can find it, because we’re going to have to build back from this mess and so far a few chips are falling the right way.

One thing is that John Thune got elected Senate Majority Leader instead of Rick Scott, which has Steve Bannon and MAGA hopping mad. So the norm has not totally been eradicated, it’s merely on life support. And Jack Smith and his final report is another ray of hope.

Smith will likely have one last chance to make his case, just not in a court of law.

DOJ regulations require that he make a final report on his investigation, where he could lay the case against Trump on charges related to his role in the January 6 U.S. Capitol attack and his alleged mishandling of classified government records.

The Times said it‘s unclear if Smith will be able to complete that work quickly enough for it to be made public before President Joe Biden’s term ends in January.

Smith, the paper said, intends to leave no “significant part of his work for others to complete.”

Now here’s the situation: We live in a broken system, to put it mildly. Trump broke the mainstream media system back in 2015 and they lay down and let him. The short term gain was ratings, the long term effect was to utterly disembowel themselves. The New York Times political coverage is so stupid these days that it’s almost painful to read. I never thought I would see the day but it has dawned and we are living it now.

Smith’s report contains a great deal of incriminating evidence. And however Trump wants to sanewash or gaslight or blame lawfare or any of his other scapegoats, the truth is not going to set him free. The truth is going to show the world what a thug and a conman he is. Not that that is new information.

And I’ll tell you what else isn’t new information: Trump has a fifth column in his ranks, purge them as he might. He’s flying high now, drunk on vainglory, sticking his win to the libs, but when he gets a few balls rolling and MAGA waits for results and the *results* he generates are disastrous and only hurt them — and subsequently him — then we’re going to be looking at a different story.

And Machiavelli could explain that to him. Trump thinks he’s got ultimate power, now. He’s even chatting about being president for life, ha ha ha. But what he’s about to find out are the real rules of power and it would blow his tiny mind if he knew the conversations that are already taking place behind closed doors about who’s next in line and how they’re going to move up the ladder. Trump is 78 and he’s served his purpose. He’s going to find that out.

We won’t know when or how until we get there.

  1. Ursula, is Jack Smith, American Hero, required by law to hand his report to Garland the Timid? I’m sure that’s the accepted route but is it mandatory? We can have absolutely no faith that Garland will expedite the public release of the report before slinking away from his duties, so is there some way by which Mr Smith could bypass him? And we know for sure what Trumpler’s admin will do with it; I can smell burning paper from here. We deserve to have this report published immediately, before anyone can start the censorship.

  2. Ursula…as much as I respect your opinion, you live as a moral person who pays attention to whatever truth can be had…the American public clearly showed they don’t give a rat’s ass about the truth. Whatever Jack does at this point is meaningless in the cult known as AMERICA. We’ve pissed on every noble cause we ever stood for, and pissed on the graves of the souls who died to give us what we HAD. There will be no path forward come January except experiencing things we never imagined. We’re now as helpless as a coed tied, gagged, and locked in Ted Bundy’s trunk praying for a deliverance that isn’t going to come. As the Native Americans did when they realized they might not survive the upcoming battle…time to sing our death songs. It’s a good day to die. I have zero faith in our culture, in our government, and none concerning the idiots that asked for this suicide mission. I wonder how long before we reach the climate disaster tipping point of no return? HYPERBOLE? Are you kidding me? If we’re still here in a year…laugh then if you can. We’re a nation of lemmings rushing to the cliff as fast as we can get there. Now I remember when I was unjustly sent to prison. Although the parole board admitted I shouldn’t have been arrested, it mattered not when I was surrounded by killers, locked in together 24/7. I had no desire to hurt anyone but I quickly realized that mattered not. What I was forced to do was to communicate menace, and be willing to back it up win or lose. The feeling of being trapped in an environment with soulless killers is again with me daily. THERE IS NO ESCAPE. There’s only the decision to survive. Good luck. Some won’t make it. Some will give up. Some will give in. Some will gleefully dance like the demons in hell. I will try to get through this without blood on my hands. All I can say to you phucking nazis…don’t tread on me unless you are willing to be sorry. I’m giving you fair warning. Too bad our leaders allowed this to come to pass. Thanks Mueller, Garland, McConnell, Biden, McCarthy, and so on. YOU ARE TRULY THE GUILTY PARTY.

  3. I still say that at the rate he’s slipping, they will either pull a 25th on him before his first year is up giving him a cookie and blanket pardon like Ford did for Nixon, or he will just tool around his golf courses and they will give him fake orders to sign like they did with his old man and JD and crew will run the country.
I honestly don’t know which is worse. Trump is stupid, lazy, and his brain is turning to mush. At least that and watching MAGA chuds cry when they learn that their boy is going to screw them as hard as the rest of us will be entertaining to watch.

    • Problem is Vance is just a nazi with a law degree. Trump and the American Nazi Party have NO INTENTIONS OF EVER HAVING A FREE AND FAIR ELECTION AGAIN. That you can count on. We had our shot and we phucked ourselves. Pure and simple.

      • I think that’s a little overstated. Much of what happens after Smith goes public will be beyond the realm of politics. The situation is that half the electorate voted for Trump; the other half voted for Harris. A significant number of the Trump voters are going to find themselves with buyer’s remorse very quickly.

        • This was not supposed to be a reply to your comment “Problem is Vance … ” It was siupposed to be a reply to “Ursula…as much as I respect your opinion.”

    • The tyrant is a useful idiot until January 21st. Then shortly after that hillbilly and maga mike will overthrow him and give him a pardon so he can go play golf all day. As soon as tyrant can tear it all down and take the blame, he is ousted. I figure it’ll only take a day of signing all the executive orders he says are awaiting his signature.

  4. My friend, who once ran for congress, described our party versus Trump. The democrats are fighting with the respect of the Kingsbury rules of no punching below the belt etc. Trump is the WWE wrestler who honors nothing and will plummel you with a folding chair and then keep kicking you in the face when you’re knocked unconscious. America…the screaming zombies in the stands wanting blood and drama.
