This caught my eye a little while ago. Trump put out an announcement on Truth Social that high profile members of his first administration won’t be part of the second one. It’s easy enough to know why Haley won’t be in the mix. Pompeo? That’s a bit murkier but if memory serves he kept his distance from the insurrection. I can’t be sure but he might have offered a tepid statement that the election was straight up fair. But the important thing is he faded from view because he wasn’t crazy stupid enough to be involved. Or any involvement was so limited as to have not left any evidence worth pursuing. Either way he wasn’t a big public supporter of the Big Lie. So like Haley he’s on the outside looking in. The WEIRD part is that Trump apparently was nice and polite in his statement!
According to Bloomberg Trump’s statement included this: “I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our country.” I don’t know about you but that seems more than a little out of character for Trump. I mean why bother putting out a statement at all? It’s not like Haley had much chance of being welcomed back. As for Pompeo I had no use for the guy but compared to some of the names for either positions he held (CIA Director and then Secretary of State) I’d prefer him.
I would think Trump had forgotten about both Haley and Pompeo already. Hell, he probably hadn’t thought of Mike Pompeo for years. Probably had to be reminded of who the guy was as they were kicking around names. Anyway I’d have expected that Trump wouldn’t say jack about either Haley or Pompeo unless a reporter asked him about either or both of them. And then he’d have said not only would they NOT be part of the new administration but tossed in a typical Trump insult for good measure.
It’s got me wondering WTF is going on in Trump’s inner circle. Admittedly I’m in probably “way too hopeful land” but I’m wondering if they know something we don’t. As in Trump is worse that we thought and not long for office. And that Vance won’t be up to the job and things could quickly turn into a giant hot mess and the GOP actually won’t be able to get away with blowing off the Constitution. That there will be a real election in 2028. That they will need credible candidates who believe in the agenda but aren’t too badly covered with orange Trump stink. People like Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo.
Maybe, just maybe there are a handful of behind the scenes “wise men/women” (OK, this is Team Trump so men!) who want to hedge bets. People who also have enough influence with the right Trump people to have him make polite statements like the one I’m talking about that won’t trash options if they need to have some non-MAGA candidates in four years. People who worry about a repeat of 2018 which would seriously damage what the Project 2025 people will be trying to do which again I say could lead to us getting to have a real Presidential election in 2028.
Well, if some “deep state” machinations from freaking conservatives is going on, influencing him not to go burning down what’s left of the old GOP (just in case) that’s not a bad thing. But again I say it’s all seeming weird as hell tonight.
As for both Haley and Pompeo I’m betting since both have long had Presidential ambitions they are breathing a sigh of relief tonight. Maybe even enjoying a bottle of vintage champagne. They have every reason to do so if they are harboring 2028 ambitions. Trump has it seems let them off the hook as he drives the bus past them instead of running them over and has left them in the rearview mirror. They can quietly make the odd statement here and there about supporting this or that Trump policy just so conservatives don’t forget about them. But mostly sit out all the crazy and emerge as “saviors” when the time comes.
It’s not that big a deal with all that’s going on but put a pin in this. In two or three years if Haley and Pompeo (mostly) keep their distance it will I predict be a very big thing indeed. I know given the moment it’s off topic but the fact is that in addition to tending to our wounds and summoning our will to put up as hard a fight as we can we are going to have to pay attention to a LOT of things. Both at home and abroad.
I’ll leave you with a repeat of the intriguing question I posed earlier. Do certain people near Trump and the behind the scenes GOP power broker world know something even most of Team Trump and the rest of us don’t?

In one sense, I’m hoping this is the case.
On the other hand, why the hell didn’t these “certain people” or “behind the scenes GOP power broker” come forward and keep Trump from getting the nomination in the first place?
Something evil is going on. Radio silence is not his thing, nor is being nice. Hillbilly will declare him insane and be rid of him, free to fully implement project 2025. That is precisely why he was chosen. No, something is happening and we are not going to like it. Not atall, not atall. And he did tell a group of people that they, meaning all of us, will never have to vote again. I expect we saw our last election. If we have any others, they will be like Russia where the winner is foreordained. Maybe exactly like this one.
