We live in a world which no writer could dream up, except maybe Kurt Vonnegut if he dropped a lot of acid. For that matter, Mark Twain or Charles Dickens, or certainly George Bernard Shaw, were any of them with us, would find politics in the year 2024 a bit difficult to describe. Shaw quipped, “The longer I live the more convinced am I that other planets use this planet for an insane asylum.” If Shaw was able to reach that conclusion in his era can you imagine what he would think of the Trump era? Or of this week in the Trump era?

I don’t think “undecideds” exist. I think that there is a range of unhappiness that some Republicans feel. In fact, I know there is, but that’s not because they’re undecided. There are Republicans who hate Trump as much as we do but they don’t want to vote for a Democrat. I spoke with one of those a few months ago. He said he was going to sit the election out. That works. It’s not voting for Trump again, which is the one “option” which is unthinkable. That’s because it’s an option on a par with the option that Thelma and Louise took, taking that car straight off the cliff.
We’re in the last week now. Early voting will stop in certain states. Other states have voted to defeat measures which would refuse to count votes if they’re received past Election Day, even if the post mark is November 5 or earlier.
We are set up to turn the page. And while this episode of Last Week In The Republican party is totally batshit, don’t assume we’ve hit bottom yet. No way. There is always a new sub-basement that Trump and MAGA can find, and yes I know we’ve already gone down to China and back again, but at the rate things are going, Trump could go so low that he comes out in Australia and then ends up on the moon.
Tomorrow Trump is in North Carolina, a state where Democrats lead in all polls for the various offices, except a purported tie where the presidential election is concerned. Let’s see what Trump can do to shoot himself in the foot there. As B.B. King sang, “The thrill is gone,” and Trump is running on fumes.
I’ve always been of the impression that an ‘undecided voter’ isn’t that at all – it’s someone who is basically saying “I know who I’m going to vote for – but it’s none of your business who that is”
Or is embarrassed to admit they voted for Trump in a blue state.
My maga mother, yes, I come from a GQP family but I am the only Democratic voter, refuses to hear the negative. She says it’s all fake news. I find her info to read. I send her project 2025. I prove that yes, he DID say that. But she was raised a republican and rather than vote for a Democrat (hell no!) or sit out the election, she will vote for the man who will take away her and my social security, Medicare, etc., and destroy the economy. You cannot change these people, even when they know the result will be terrible. Even my long departed father, another republican, wouldn’t have voted for trump because my dad was a true Christian. He would have written in a name. But he also would never vote for a Democrat! wHat he hell happened to this country?!? (Rhetorical question)

Ursula, you just made me spit coffee on my phone. MULTIPLE TIMES. I consider this a good thing. And y’all, I am so, so, so worried about living under a dictatorship with the bonus fears of Project 2025 and a certain sh*t bilionaire going to wreck the economy, which won’t touch him, and a VP candidate that is almost worse than the presidential candidate and, and, and……. my husband and I were waiting in line at oh dark hundred on the first day of early voting, and we’ve been doing what else we can, but the fear is still there.
