This is getting interesting. I think my favorite Ted Cruz quote came from GOP SC Senator Lindsey Graham, If anybody ever killed Ted Cruz, and if it happened in the Senate, and the trial was held in the Senate, nobody would ever be convicted. Get to know who your friends are, Cancun Teddy.
That being said, the sands certainly appear to be shifting in Texas, and quite possibly under Cruz’s feet. Just the quick down and dirty. Cruz got elected in basically a sham election in 2012. Due to party sanctions, the primary wasn’t held until after the nominee was known. Cruz ended up in a run off, which the state party scheduled on an off day in the hottest part of the summer. In 2018 Cruz beat Democrat Beto O”Rourke by just about two points in a state that Trump won by 11 two years earlier.
I have been quietly high on this race for months now, and have contributed to Allred. He is young, energetic, intelligent, charismatic and well spoken. Everything Calgary Teddy ain’t. In a football mad state, he was a linebacker at Baylor, one of the most conservative colleges in Texas, and on to the NFL. In 2018 he pulled a shocker by flippiung a seat in a steady red district. And most important, Allred is more moderate than Beto was in a state moving towards moderation.
And the winds have been shifting for just a bit over a month now. Here’s just a quick recap of a couple of things that have happened in that time,
- A little over a month ago I reported that Trump’s campaign strategy chief sent out a 3 am rage Tweet, What the f*ck is going on with Cruz down in Texas?! We need to get some professionals down there soonest to bail his silly ass out!
- A week or so ago The Cook Report, one of my gold standards along with Nate Silver and Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball downgraded the Texas Senate race from Likely Republican to Lean Republican. The next step down from there is Toss Up
- Last might if it came to a head. Ted Cruz went on to FUX News, where he whined like a car that won’t get out of first gear. He bitched about him being on top of Chuck Schumer’s Hit List. He moaned about the Democrats pouring $100 million(?) into the state against him, and begged people to turn over the sofa cushions for loose change, and shoot it to him. What a little beyotch.
Before I move on, I want to mention this. In 2022, then RSCC Chair Rick Scott shot the wad in backing up Herschel Walker’s flailing campaign in Georgia, Ditch McConnell’s Super PAC made a last minute $20 million into beggar Vance’s campaign, and multiple cash infusions into Cruise Ship Dr Oz’s campaign. I find it strange that nobody in the GOP power structure is jumping in to bail Cruz out. Maybe McConnell sees enough GOP Senate pickups in 2024 that he can afford to jettison the obnoious pain-in-the-ass.
And tonight is Colin Allred’s big chance. For a deep red state, the advertising rates in Texas are ridiculously high, closing in on California rates. And tonight is the only 2024 senate debate between Allred and Cruz. Look for Cruz to go filthy on Allred over his support for Trans rights, and Allred to hit Cruz on his greed, ineffectiveness, and feral hatred for abortion rights.
Texas doesn’t have an abortion rights initiative on the ballot this year, but that doesn’t mean that Allred doesn’t have a hidden secret weapon. Because what is on the ballot this year is the name of every conservative Supreme Court Judge that upheld the constitutionality of Texas’s atrocious abortion ban. And pro choice grassroots activists are beating the bushes to educate people of that, as well as giving them cheat sheets with the offending names on it to take into the booth. And if they’re going to vote to cleanse the Supreme court, then why not cleanse your Senate seat as well?
Like every other contest this year, it will be won and lost in the margins. And since 2018, my understanding is that Texas has added more than 1 million new voters to the rolls. That’s important because those are votes that Cruz has to work for, they aren’t in his pocket. Don’t touch that dial.
I thank you for the privilege of your time.

I have sent money to alread as well.cruz vs alread tv debate tonight. hard to watch Cruz shouts all the time. alread is kind of quiet and determined. my wife thinks alread should be more aggressive. cruz never answered a question. cruz was all about black lives matter and trans people. I turned it off.
second best quote: I like Ted Cruz more than most of my republican colleagues like Ted Cruz. and I hate Ted Cruz. al Franken.
Yep I’ve hit the donate button a couple of times for Allred too. He’s everything they need down there in Tx after that a…hole they’ve had to put up with.
I think Allred is a good guy and would make a far superior US Senator than cruz ever thought about being. That said, he is a man of color and texans are nothing if not a bunch of racists. He DID however win a congressional seat in a very red district which gives me enormous hope. And texans LOVE them some football. I mean the incorrect amount. You could tell some redneck his mama blew sailors for a living but if you high-fived him on how great a game his kid played last Friday, you’d be Ok in his book.
I think Allred has a chance which is more than I think any other dem has had in a very long time. I sure hope this gentleman pulls this off.
