During J.D. Vance’s interview with Dana Bash that aired on CNN’s State of the Union he said some things that were eye opening. One that hasn’t gotten the attention it should is him complaining news outlets aren’t saying what the Trump campaign wants when it comes to Harris and immigration. So they will make up their own stories to get journalists to say stuff that suits them!
Yes, as you can see Vance actually said that. Bash was a bit taken aback and gave him a chance to clean it up. He only partially did so. After reiterating his false claims about Harris and ‘open borders’ (a LIE) and ‘illegal immigrants’ taking over towns and cities (another LIE) Vance said he’s ‘heard from constituents’ that yes, immigrants are doing the stuff he claimed has been happening in Springfield Ohio. Vance lest we forget is after all a Senator and at least in theory representing the people of that state. Frankly, Vance’s claim he’s heard stories from constituents stretches credibility. It smacks of Trump’s “people say” nonsense.
In Vance’s case the idea he has any notion of constituent services is a joke. I recall him trying to play hero after the East Palestine train derailment. There was the odd story about his ‘concern’ being less than genuine. It seems some buyer’s remorse had set in because folks contacting his office for help with a problem with say their Social Security, the VA, the IRS, a small business loan application etc. got jack for a response. Anyone in the House or Senate that wants to be re-elected designates at least a few staffers to follow up on this kind of thing. And at least put up a front that the boss is trying to help. Apparently Vance didn’t think that was worth doing.
If I’m not mistaken this spring when various names were being floated as potential running mates for Trump this concern came up. I can only recall a blurb here and there but I can see how since we are talking Ohio any shortcomings from a Republican are forgiven. However, Vance might have stepped in it this time. I wrote here on Politizoom yesterday about how in the same interview Vance refused to apologize to a grieving father who wants him to stop politicizing his eleven year old son’s death. Vance basically said ‘piss off dude – your son is fair game for me to exploit and f**k the additional grief it’s causing you and your wife.
And of course despite the bomb threats at public buildings and schools Vance made it clear he’s going to keep talking about Haitians eating pets and it’s all Kamala Harris’ fault. Two more Springfield schools had to be closed today. THAT is what Vance is doing to this town with his LIE that he admitted was a LIE from the get-go. But now he’s got other Ohio politicians including GOP Governor Mike DeWine calling him out. Telling him to STFU. I don’t think Vance is going to put Ohio into play if he keeps this crap up but if he loses in November he’d better milk every perk he can out of the rest of his Senate term. Because he’s not getting re-elected and might not even make it out of a primary.
In the meantime however we have Vance and Trump (and their enablers) just making up outrageous claims to try and dominate some news cycles. They have two choices. They can focus on stuff semi-rational Republicans want them to focus on, messaging that might resonate with Independent voters or they can keep up the crazy. I don’t know about you but I’m betting they go with the second option.
Call ME crazy but it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that soon we’ll be hearing about ‘Illegal African immigrants’ that are CANIBALS! And/or any immigrant from the Caribbean being into ‘that voodoo stuff” and into sucking out people’s brains and creating ZOMBIES! (and maybe even talk about a pact between leaders of the two groups to join forces) There are plenty of dumbass MAGAs out there that will believe that kind of crap. It would be laughable except for this: We aren’t talking about LIGHT brown skin people. No we are talking about people of medium and dark colored skin. BLACK people. Even black people who have family roots in this country (albeit their ancestors started out as slaves) that go back farther than many of the MAGAs they will all be looked at as threats.
That’s the whole, hateful point. We are steadily growing less so but this country is still majority white and more importantly a huge swatch of red states that provide a built in Electoral College bloc in a Presidential election are mostly white. Haitian immigrant is code for NON WHITE immigrants. Not the WHITE eastern European immigrant Vance and Trump want coming to the U.S. Vance and Trump and way too many of the RWNJ types are hard at work painting a picture. One they will be happy to see splattered with the blood of non white people, immigrant or not.
