It is good to remind ourselves that there is a difference between strong conservative values versus simply supporting Donald Trump, as many Republicans do, but a segment does not. It matters. Trump is not a conservative. He merely plays Trump in politics and does so from the right side for reasons only he knows.
No, conservatives support lower taxation for all, decreasing the federal deficit by spending less money, they support free trade, and fewer regulations, not “favors” to big business. We know that Trump is not conservative because the conservative Wall Street Journal seems to be leaning toward supporting Kamala Harris. She is not conservative.
If the Journal strongly supported Trump they would be far more likely to set aside personal troubles and instead focus on policy. But that’s not where it stands. The paper is now calling Trump out for associating with Laura Loomer and doing so with a fierce tone and a committed position. The editorial board simply won’t stand with this.
People in the Trump campaign are trying to get her out of the former President’s entourage, to no avail. Even Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene thinks Ms. Loomer is damaging the former President’s election chances. They know Mr. Trump’s association with Ms. Loomer feeds the concern among voters that Mr. Trump listens to crazy courtiers who flatter him and play to his vanity. Is this who the next four years are going to feature?
Above we see an intensely serious development within the campaign itself. When the staff has lost control to the point it is fully ignored there is a problem. If the candidate doesn’t at least bend to the campaign staff (Have fewer events with Loomer?), it’s a sign that the campaign itself is devolving before one’s eyes. It is only responsible to ask the candidate that if he isn’t going to listen, why employ a staff at all. The Journal goes on to write:
The problem here is deeper than Mr. Trump’s electoral prospects. A growing segment of the American right is populated by, and susceptible to, cranks and conspiracists. A movement that used to admire William F. Buckley Jr. and Thomas Sowell now elevates a pseudo-historian who blames Winston Churchill for World War II and media personalities who sell falsehoods as a triumph for free speech.
Well, there is no doubt that she has the right to say it, just as Trump has no duty to bring the far-far-far righter racist, not inextricably linked and indeed – would in normal circumstances drop Loomer like a hot campaign cheese berder.

Why is the former President hanging with a 9/11 conspiracist?https://t.co/WPRHdY1ZC8— 🎁 Gift Articles – Nothing but Gift Articles 🎁 (@springwatch2020) September 14, 2024
One wonders if this is a direct result of Melania dropping out of the campaign, altogether. I am not accusing Trump of having an affair – not really – maybe – only that he might need some emotional security of the type provided by a… Just kidding, for a moment I was about to write “beautiful woman” but love or hate Melania, she’s absolutely prettier than the much younger Loomer. I have no idea what Loomer provides and neither does his campaign.
There is also a purely political and practical reason for Trump to dump Loomer. Perhaps at least 66-75% of his base would actively be turned off by her presence in the campaign. We get pretty used to calling all Trump-supporters racists and such, it’s simply not true, not a majority of them. I live among them, trust me on that.
Whether I am right doesn’t really matter because the Wall Street Journal’s opinion represents far more than 5% of Trump supporters. But the reality is that neither candidate can afford to lose 5% of its voting base. That is why this editorial matters, “bigly”.
Besides, no matter how much Loomer might flirt, he should have a replacement readily at hand or he has a terrible campaign staff unable to think ahead. That’s an easy read. Even he should have anticipated the potential problem.

Well I am accusing her of being his flavor of the month just like Habba, Stormy, Karen, Marla….
He must like the oral narratives they give to him…
And the WSJ is just catching on to the fact that Trump hangs out with conspiratists now?!!
Oh, please. The WSJ editorial board didn’t seem to mind so much when his administration was populated by the same sort of kooks as Loomer. They weren’t concerned when folks like Miller and Bannon were spreading THE SAME FREAKING RACIST NONSENSE that Loomer is. Where was the board when Margarine Traitor Greene was spewing her “Jewish space lasers” nonsense?
The board has NO REAL problem with Trump’s associating with Loomer. Their only issue is that Trump doesn’t seem to be listening to anyone who could be seen as “moderating” or “tempering” him with less blatant racist messaging. During his 2016 and 2020 campaigns, at least Trump SEEMED to have people around him, willing to go, “Well, that’s just Donald being outrageous for publicity, you know, but he doesn’t really mean any of it.” But now, he’s pretty much surrounded himself with folks who share his propensity for stirring sh*t up. The board knew this during the “primary” season; they knew it (hell, they saw and heard it) during the Convention. Where were their objections then?
