More Bad News For Donald, Now Truth Social’s In Desperate Straits

When it rains, it pours. And it’s pouring so hard right now over the head of one rotund orange man. He’s starting to remind me of that character in Little Abner, Joe Btfsblk. Remember him? He had a personal rain cloud that followed him. Everywhere else the sun was shining but where this poor guy was, always rain and gloom. Turns out that The Guardian spoke to a right-wing media analyst, Howard Polskin, who said that Truth Social had only 2.11 million unique users in June, a decline of 38 percent from one year ago. And that is the second-worse audience decline that Truth Social has suffered, so it’s done worse, but not by much. And this was to be Donald Trump’s cash cow, remember that?

Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform experienced a third straight month of audience decline in June, a leading analyst of rightwing media said, detecting signs of “trouble at the ballot box” for the Republican presidential nominee.

“The diminishing audience levels for Truth Social suggest a rejection of the harsh rhetoric expressed by the ex-president and his political allies that is one of the hallmarks of the two-year-old platform,” Howard Polskin said.

“If this softness persists, it might portend trouble for Mr Trump at the ballot box in November.”

Polskin is president of TheRighting, a site that seeks to “inform middle-of-the-road and liberal audiences about stories and viewpoints not on their radar that are shaping political opinion across a wide swath of America”.

Now remember, Trump is always looking to strike it rich. Truth Social was no different. There was never any plan to build the thing, it was supposed to be the social media equivalent of Athena, springing full grown from the forehead of Zeus. That might happen in mythology, business is a different kettle of fish.

Here are the stark facts: Truth Social had 3.26 million unique users in its first month online, according to TheRighting. And that’s an outstanding debut, made possible due to Trump’s “brand.” But this June the site had a little over 2.11 million unique users, a fall of 38% year on year. So Truth Social is a flash in the pan flop, as expected. And if you go over there, it is rinky dink. It makes Facebook and Twitter look like the Library of Congress, as compared to a coloring book. Intriguingly, Rumble also is down. TheRighting said Rumble had 6.37 million unique users in June 2024, down 43% year on year, while Gettr had 134,000, down 34%.

The article goes on to say that, “Figures for mainstream and liberal sites followed similar patterns.” I can tell you first hand that our traffic in June of this year was down considerably from June, 2023, although July was on a par with last July. So I don’t know if people are simply burned out, or what. Maybe there’s so much out there that people feel overloaded. But Truth Social has shown a steady decline whereas other sites, this one included, bounce up and down. But back to Donald:

The venture was supposed to be Trump’s cash cow, as the former president and convicted felon owns 60 percent of the company. But a series of setbacks since launching have ruined Trump’s financial fail-safe. The company had a net loss of $58.2 million in 2023, numbers that had to be reaudited after its accounting firm was charged with “massive fraud” and subsequently barred from ever serving as accountants again. The company lost an astonishing $327.6 million last quarter, only bringing in $770,500 in revenue.

Trump can’t brag his way out of Trump Media’s declining stock value, as pumping up the stock is illegal. He can’t try to dump the stock until September without board approval, either, and while he’s been given a reprieve from his legal cases by the Supreme Court, he still has legal bills to pay. But all he can do is watch Trump Media’s stock price continue to go nowhere, or come up with another grift with which he can fleece his supporters.

We’ll see about that “reprieve.” He’s got three criminal trials that will go forward sometime in 2025 after Trump loses the November election. So here’s what Trump’s future looks like:

1. Embarrassing campaign followed by solid defeat in November;
2. Truth Social not only drying up as a source of income (which it has never been, except on paper) but not being the Voice Of MAGA;
3. The wheels of justice grinding slowly and inexorably as Trump goes to prison.
