Last night Former West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin seemed as though he was going to compete for the title of “most hated ex-Democrat” when he announced that he was considering changing his registration from independent back to Democrat so he could challenge V.P. Harris for the Democratic nomination for President. But this morning on CBS Mornings he backed off that in a big way, saying he would not seek the office but instead opining that Harris should be forced to compete in a “mini primary” ahead of the convention which opens in only three weeks.
Manchin doesn’t seem to care that the Democratic Party would lose probably at least half of their most loyal base voters if Kamala was made to endure such a process or that she served as Joe Biden’s most loyal lieutenant for 3 1/2 years, helping to pass the very initiatives that Manchin was doing his best to scuttle while pretending to be a Democrat.

“Sen. Joe Manchin of Virginia, who briefly sparked fears among Democrats that he could re-register as a Democrat and challenge Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidential nomination, has ruled out running.
Appearing on CBS Mornings on Monday, Manchin, who left the Democratic Party and filed as an Independent in May, said: “I am not going to be a candidate for president.”
He added: “I am a candidate for basically speaking for the middle of this country.”
Manchin later explained his reasoning for not challenging Harris, saying: “I don’t need that.”
Although he won’t oppose Harris, who already has substantial support within the party and an endorsement from President Joe Biden, Manchin argued that rallying behind Harris so quickly was a “mistake.”
He said he believes that the party’s apparent decision not to pursue open competition via a primary or a “mini-process” was misguided.
“We’re not going to be able to see a vigorous, even a three-week primary process,” Manchin added.“
Yeah, Joe, we really don’t need to see that mess as we have a sitting V.P. in place who has the confidence of her President and Democrats who contributed $80 million to her campaign in the last 16 hours or so… but do go on…

Well, if Manchin wants a “primary process,” then I’d suggest he start ponying up the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS it would cost for ALL the states to print up ballots and set election schedules and then, of course, have the various election officials certify the results in that three-week time frame. There are a few states which still have primaries for local and statewide offices BUT those ballots have already been printed up (and early voting and mail-in voting has likely begun in those states still holding primary elections).
I’ve got a feeling he did NOT consider that little bit. (He might want to recall that fun happening in 2008 when Michigan and Florida’s primary results were effectively invalidated by the DNC and the DNC would NOT pay for new primaries and the states’ party organizations couldn’t afford to hold new primaries.)

What other people/media don’t realize is that we already voted for Kamala once—-you remember, the Biden/HARRIS ticket! And we have watched our investment or time/money over the past four years. THIS is why the party has rallied so fast and so seamlessly, and why a “primary”is not needed (or wanted) at this late date.
Less than irrelevant is what’s eating at him.

And how much he hurt his own state, West Virginia, which is among the poorest in the country and now has a Republican governor who’d originally been a Dem and spoke at the shit show Repub convention with his bulldog on a chair nearby.
These folks need to go away and let the serious people take care of the business of actually working to make things better for the American people and not for the American plutocrats.
After dropping out of the beltway rat-race in the fall of 2004 I moved to WV to look after a friend’s farm and horses. I saw quite a bit more of the state than the eastern panhandle where I lived but I remember feeling like I was back in southern Illinois where I lived my first 26 years before heading off to the Marines. I lived there for over ten years (closer to eleven actually) and stayed in touch with co-workers for several years after transferring to NC for work. As with folks back home in southern Illinois I simply can’t fathom how they came to trust the GOP and dislike if not hate Democrats even though the support the things Democrats actually try to do. Well, except on the coal issue but just like back in southern Illinois coal simply isn’t a viable industry and hasn’t been for a very long time. But folks in these places are dug in. Part of it’s human nature. No one likes admitting they’re wrong or made a big mistake, even to themselves. Admitting it to others is even tougher. So, in a place that’s as homogenous both economically and ethnically once an attitude has set it it’s damned near impossible to change it. Even when every ounce of their own common sense tells some people they should. The old phrase “cut off their nose to spite their face” comes to mind.
This dude really needs to FOAD! Between him and his skank buddy from AZ I think they have done enough damage! manchin & sinema are both evil players! Watching him on the Sunday talk shows made me feel like puking in his face! He preaches love for old Joe while shoving a knife right in his back!
