This is an explosion waiting to happen. This montage posted on Donald Trump’s twitter account around 1:00 a.m. EDT. When it gets a bit more play, as people wake up Thursday morning to see it, there is going to be some hell breaking loose. You will recognize these actors (interestingly, all men. Not a woman amongst them.) You will also recognize the fact that many of these people have spoken out against Trump openly. Now, is this misrepresentation? My offhand reaction is that since these are very short clips from movies and TV shows, Trump can and will argue fair usage. But unless I miss my guess, the actors depicted herein are not going to want to have it inferred that they are MAGA.

Again, at first blush it’s fair use and the idea is not to depict these actors as being MAGAs, although the clear inference is there. The argument would be that the nod of approval is the issue, not that the actors nodding approval are MAGA per se. That said, how much you want to bet that there’s going to be a ruckus over this?

Michael Caine will tell Dan Scavino to get screwed. It’s a cinch Jon Hamm and Christian Bale will. Forget about Leonardo DiCaprio or Tom Cruise going along with this. As a matter of fact, if there is one actor in this montage who would not object to this use of their likeness to send this message, I don’t know which one it would be. I may have to keep screening it again and again.
This would make an interesting question on a law school exam about intellectual property and fair use: “Whether it’s legal to use a very short clip of an actor’s likeness to sell a political candidate when it’s well known the actor in question hates the candidate’s fucking guts in real life. Discuss.”
Man. And we thought things were plenty weird when Ron DeSantis was using homoerotic footage of Brad Pitt and Nazi symbolism in his political ads. Little did we know what was in store.
My spidey sense tells me that Lincoln Project, Meidas Touch and that crowd is going to come up with a hell of a response to this. This has only been on the internet less than 90 minutes as I get ready to push the publish key. Mark my words, this is going to blow sky high.

Why in the name of the wee man would Sir Michael Caine even think about a blob of lard who hawks red baseball caps and fake gold sneakers? He doesn’t even have a vote in any US election (hint – he’s a Brit and a knight of the realm to boot)
My take on this is that all these actors would resent their likeness being used to push Trump or his MAGA agenda. And I think that Michael Caine, even though he’s a Brit, would find it objectionable.
Yep. In Great Britain, if an actor supported or seemed to support Von Shitzinpants, it would not be good for the box office or selling theater seats (I believe he also acts on stage?). Much of what Caine does is in Hollywood anyway and being labeled a magat/trump supporter could be a death knell of one’s career.
And, as Ursula says, just being associated with trump might be objectionable. It sure as all get out would piss me off so I can only imagine how it would feel if you were a world famous celebrity and were linked with the ass.
Sir Michael Caine retired from acting not too long ago but still and all, he does not want this association. And it’s a cinch that none of the younger men do. And what’s up with all men? Like we don’t have any female actors nodding approval at the world or something or somebody in it?
They’re scared of being pu$$y-grabbed
I get fundraising emails from Jon hamm on behalf of democratic candidates
Yes, you do. He endorses a terrific Missouri candidate because he’s from Missouri himself.
MAGApublicans by definition cannot be patriots, since they are all NATZI FASCISTS!!! However, the MAGA hats make them easy to spot.
I would love to know the *logic* behind this: owning the libs or making MAGAs believe that these actors support Trump. Probably both.
I believe that the only one with a claim would be the studio, if the clips are from movies. Cruise is so tied up in a cult he wouldn’t dare speak out against the felon. Btw, public personas maintain a higher threshold than regular citizens. Why Hillary never sued the felon doughboy.
