Mark Burns is not only a MAGA candidate, he’s a religious wingnut. He was just defeated in a Republican primary in South Carolina, according to The Hill. This challenges, once again, whether a Trump endorsement is a blessing or a curse. So far it has failed to prove that it is a magical incantation, imbuing the recipient with great powers. We have seen it fail at least as often as it has worked. And even when it does work, as in the recent case of Bob Good v. John McGuire, there is no landslide, merely a squeaking by.

Republican nurse practitioner Sheri Biggs has won the GOP primary runoff for South Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District, Decision Desk HQ projects, in an unusual race that pitted Donald Trump against one of his top allies.

Biggs beat Trump-endorsed Mark Burns in the one-on-one runoff after neither secured a majority of the vote in the initial, more crowded primary earlier this month. Her win is an upset, as Burns was the top vote-getter in the first round.

Per usual, Trump is expected to blame Burns for not running a good enough race. That’s the standard line when one of Trump’s endorsed candidates loses, it’s their fault. When they win, then naturally it’s all his doing, because he’s such a magical being.
