I remember this quote. I remember grabbing the sofa arm the day I heard it. Going on eight years later, I am still stunned that anybody this stupid could have actually been elected president of these United States. The quote and the scenes that you’ll see in this video are the best of Trump.

What makes this funny is that I’ve heard normal people give this as a reason for why they’re highly informed politically. I’ve had conversations with people who tell me they listened to “Rachel and other TV for three hours” and they believe this is a good grounding in politics. Wrong. It’s a broad brush stroke, which is all that TV is really good for, is broad brush strokes and anecdotes. That’s TV’s forte. But not substance and seldom depth. That said, I never thought that a person would believe that watching TV qualified them to be the commander in chief. Until this guy came along.

“I watch the shows.” Reminds you of the Peter Sellers character in “Being There,” does it not? “I like to watch.” I’m not sure that Chance the Gardener would have thought that watching the shows qualified him to run the country, but here’s the gag, Donald Trump honestly did think that and does. He believes that running a country of 330 million people is simply a matter of knowing what is said on the TV news shows and the Sunday political shows.

I’m telling you, the man does not exist outside of television. He understands television. He has devoted himself to that medium. He sincerely believes that life is whatever it is distilled down to and presented on TV. Trump lives in this Twilight Zone dimension, all of his own creation, where everything is soundbites and closeups, or long shots and graphs. It’s all presentation and show biz. The actual substance of government is nothing he has the slightest clue about or would even want to learn. He wants the pomp and ceremony of it all, and to send Marine One out for Chinese food. He never wanted to govern and hated the job of president when he had it.

Nevertheless, he is running again, to run the country he tried to overthrow when he ran it before, while running from his legal problems and prison. The White House is a lot more appealing place to live than a 6′ by 9′ cell, I will grant you that. And right now, Trump’s life is in such a tangle and a twist, those are about his two options, batshit as that seems. Unfortunately, it’s true.

Here’s a clip that Cassidy Hutchinson did recently.

That’s how I see it. Trump would not leave in 2028 if he’s elected in 2024, God forbid. I know what he would do. He would claim that he was “owed” another term, because the years 2021 through January, 2025 were “stolen” from him and that would be his justification to stay in office. I’m not the only one who thinks this. It’s the obvious go-to position for Trump to stay in the White House.

Let us hope America learned from Trump’s awful term and won’t give him another. That’s our only prayer to stay a democratic nation.

  1. He has gotten by as a,CEO because more intelligent underling did the hard work of supervising construction of his buildings. They presented limited choices so he thought he was the one in charge.

Unfortunately that doesn’t work for a president. He hates, having to read stuff and has,a,short attention, likely ADHD. Everything has to be kept short and using small words is necessary. His daily briefing on international issues can be no longer than a page, preferably in bullet points and with graphs.

He wants to be America’s CEO, not Commander in Chief. And a tv star.

  2. You know Ursula. I hadn’t been paying attention for awhile. Had been trying to work. Struggling with disability. Anyway, I was sixty something and I heard you clowns elected Trump. And the nation elected him. Republicans because they were idiots. Democrats because of apathy. People didn’t like Hillary. Stupid, she at least knew what to do in the White House. But I, myself had never registered to vote. I had worked on campaigns and all that stuff but I just didn’t want to vote. Well you electing possibly the biggest clown and idiot in New York. A man that has gone bankrupt six times. Somehow you people thought this idiot would be a good president. I wouldn’t let him clean the toilets in the White House, let alone sit in the Oval Office. You people had to be insane. And here I am what eight years later still trying to keep the clown out of our House.
