Look, let’s be clear. Ron DeSantis is not the Governor of the state of Florida. DeSantis wouldn’t know what actual governance looked like if it walked up and kicked him in the cojones. What DeSantis is is the GOP ideologue in chief of the state of Florida. DeSantis’ whole image and persona are only made possible due to a jerrymandered GOP supermajority in the legislature that allows him to scratch his every ideological itch.
DeSantis rode in the US House on, what else?, the back of the Freedom caucus. But it’s funny. Even in the whack-a-mole caucus, reporting shows that fellow caucus members thought of him as a kind of a moron. He brought nothing to the table in meetings or committees, and never met a far right conspiracy rabbit he wasn’t willing to chase down a hole. Which made him a tailor fit for El Pendejo Presidente to anoint to be Governor of Florida.
Pop Quiz! Somebody show me a DeSantis engineered bill that the legislature slavishly passed that actually benefitted the citizens of the state of Florida? Anybody? I didn’t think so, because every single thing that DeSantis has done over the last six years in Florida was done solely to make him an ideological match for Frump, so that he could run for President against him in 2024.
And it’s in the process of literally wrecking the Florida economy. Just to highlight a couple of his far right boondoggles meant to boost his insaneiac bona fides for GOP primary voters in 2024.
- DeSantis got into a pissing contest with the Disney company after they criticized his stupid Don’t Say Gay law. DeSantis ordered his lap poodle legislature to move to strip Disney of their decades old autonomy agreement with the state. If it goes through, it would force the residents of two Florida counties to pick up the approximate $1.2 billion loss in revenue through their property taxes
- But it’s worse. Under the agreement, Disney had their own police department, fire department, public works department, and infrastructure maintenance department. Without that, all Florida voters will be using their tax dollars to pay for state employees to provide those services to Disney instead
- DeSantis legislated himself a personal Voter Fraud Police Unit, answerable only to him. These are state employees, paid for by taxpayers. But what a bargain! DeSantis held a huge presser to announce the first 20 indictments and arrests from his voter Praetorian Guard. Right. So far they have one lousy plea deal to show for their first 20 arrests. A MLB shortstop with that kind of a batting average would find himself back in AA ball before he could pack
- DeSantis put his hand picked Education Department to work to strip the education curriculum, including higher education of anything that could make lowlife redneck losers feel guilty about themselves. This is going to deprive major football and basketball mill universities like The University of Miami, Florida State University, and the University of Florida top level collegiate scholarship recruits, many of them minorities, who will go somewhere else for a quality education. And second rate teams will cost the universities millions in broadcast revenues and alumni donations
But now DeSantis has really shot his wad on an anti undocumented immigrant law that reads almost like a forced deportation order. And it’s already had an effect. On The Reid Out with Joy Reid on MSNBC today, they reported on undocumented migrants that actually left their tools behind in order to get the f*ck out of Dodge ahead of the sheriff. They can always get more tools, but this hassle they don’t need.
And if ever there was a state that is piss poorly qualified for a mass migration of undocumented immigrant labor, it’s Florida. After all, it’s an agricultural state. And you couldn’t pay a high school education redneck $50 an hour to pick oranges, it would dent his white supremacist dignity. That’s what the illegals are for! Until there aren’t any more of them.
But it goes far beyond that. Who changes the sheets and towels at luxury beachfront resorts? Who buses the tables in the restaurants and bars? Who does the dishwashing and performs line cook duties? Who the hell does the grunt landscaping work at all of those hotels and luxury condo complexes? And here’s a sneaker. On the construction sites, who does the basic unskilled grunt work so that the developer doesn’t have to pay union wages for the same work?
And this just goes to show how bone stupid and ideologically obsessed Pissantis is. It’s not like he didn’t get advance warning, if he had only bothered to read. A couple of years ago Alabama passed an uber strict undocumented immigrant law, and they’re still in the toilet. The undocumented workers voted with their feet, and Alabama farmers suddenly found themselves going broke because half of their crop yield was rotting in the fields with nobody to pick or process it. Alabama slaughterhouses suddenly found meat rotting because there were no undocumented workers to do the dangerous job of hacking the stuff up.
Make no mistake about it. Ron DeSantis is a pure political ideologue. What he’s trying to do in Florida is to create a pure, homogenous white state. And he doesn’t give a sh*t what it costs the citizens of his state, or what they actually want, because this sh*t plays beautifully for the GOP primary voters he’s trying to impress. And that’s all that matters. Tough noogies Florida. Get your heads out of your *sses, and vote your own best interests for a change.
Thankfully Pissantis is in Florida. I as a former republiclown who saw the light(during Humpty Trumpty) will never allow this idiot out. You, you, you, The Great State of Florida voted him in. You can have him. May God have mercy on you all.
There’s something else. I read an article earlier this week about Hispanic truckers refusing to carry goods into or out of FL. And that attempts are underway to organize a large scale boycott. Given how retail (including grocery stores who carry non-perishable goods that people freak out over when there’s a shortage – toilet paper for example) long ago came to operate, even (to maximize cash flow/profits) depend on “just-in-time” delivery from those big ole tractor trailer rigs this could be huge and felt right away.
Conservatives however have proven quite willing to go way past cutting of their noses to spite their faces in their increasing zeal to “own the libs.” Like that Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail who stupidly keeps fighting after losing limbs one by one they keep adding to their self-inflicted wounds. I wouldn’t care except there are people in FL who don’t support the conservative agenda. Supposedly FL is cleaning house of the old state Democratic Party apparatus which long ago gave up on mounting opposition there. We’ll see if that turns out to be true and they can get good leadership and movitated & talented people to build a working Party.
FL is one of the small number of states I’ve never been to. The only reason I saw that made a trip there worthwhile was to get out away from it all in the Everglades. Given how the state has messed that up over time even that’s no longer a reason to want to go. (Even as a kid didn’t like Disney. And despite the golf packages at Disney World back when I still played and could afford it there were other places just as good that could be driven to in less than a day. Such as where I currently live in NC!) There’s even less reason to visit now.
He also could have reviewed the disastrous bathroom bill the nazis in Raleigh passed that resulted in venues being changed and millions being lost. Cretins on parade!
When CNN inevitably gives Ronnie his very own town hall, the moderator needs to ask a very simple question: “What, exactly, do you mean when you say ‘woke,’ Governor?”
