This is very clever, what just happened in the past few hours. Alvin Bragg’s office announced that Donald Trump would not be held in a cell, not be handcuffed, nor would he have a mug shot taken. If your spirits are dropping and you’re saying, “Ahhhhhhh,” in a crescendo of disappointment, don’t. Alvin Bragg may have very well deprived Trump of millions of dollars worth of free publicity and merchandising.

Think about it. We have all known since the arrest was announced that a defiant Trump, especially a handcuffed one, and one who gets a mugshot like any common criminal, was going to be an image that would immediately go viral and be placed on mugs, tee shirts, posters, you name it. The merchandising possibilities are endless.

That’s not going to happen now. How much you want to bet that Trumpty Dumpty is pisssssed? Yahoo News:

Donald Trump will be placed under arrest on Tuesday and informed that he has been charged with 34 felony counts for falsification of business records, according to a source who has been briefed on the procedures for the arraignment of the former president.

A New York City Police arrest report summarizing the charges against Trump will then be prepared and entered into the court system before he is led into a courtroom to be formally arraigned on the charges, none of which are misdemeanors.

But, the source said, Trump will not be put in handcuffs, placed in a jail cell or subjected to a mug shot — typical procedures even for white-collar defendants until a judge has weighed in on pretrial conditions. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, which has been consulting with the Secret Service and New York City court officials, concluded that there was no reason to subject the former president to handcuffs or a mug shot.

The stated reason for handcuffing defendants is on the grounds that the suspect might be a flight risk or a threat to the district attorney or court personnel, neither of which were judged to be relevant to the handling of a former president protected at all times by a phalanx of Secret Service agents.

The handcuffing makes sense because yes, Trump does have the Secret Service protection, but the mug shot, I firmly believe, is to deprive Trump of the opportunity to turn this event into bread and circus.

Let’s see what Trump says about this. The cult has built this situation up to be a parallel of the scourging of Christ, prior to his carrying the cross to the mount. None of that is possible now. The Secret Service will walk Trump in, walk him out, and he’ll get back on his plane and go home. Low drama, the dead last thing that Trump wants out of tomorrow’s appearance.

And no circus, no bread. Trump had said last week that he “looked forward to his perp-walk” and even a bullet might not be a bad touch. He was looking to gin up the rubes with his persecution and whip them into a frenzy and then fundraise like hell. Now he can’t.

Well played. Jolly good show, as a matter of fact.

  1. Anything you say can be used against you, and been signaling (with fireworks, rockets, etc.) his intentions to cash in. I guess the right people were listening, and decided to “respect the office” by not giving in to his desire for another opportunity to milk his people!

  2. Bragg just gave Trump the Ozymandias treatment…made him nothing more than a broken monument to himself with nothing else to show for it. They’re going to erase his very existence.

  3. I’m sure some cult member will memorialize him in a painting. What’s a cult without a martyr? Hey…go all in. If you folks can chant, ‘hang Mike pence’, then I’ll chant, ‘crucify him’!!! Don’t you want to see him rise from the dead? You can’t rise until you fall first. That’s a cosmic rule. Fuck locking him up. Crucify him!!! Make America halfway liveable again!!!

  4. Why do FELONS get “secret service” protection?
This disgrace should get the same protection that our school children get.
Especially since fat ass is dumber than the average 1st grader….

    • Um, you DO understand what “felon” means, right? It means someone who has been CONVICTED OF A SERIOUS CRIME IN A COURT OF LAW.

As much as you wish it so, Trump does NOT meet that condition.

On a slightly more significant point, even if Trump IS convicted and does become a “felon,” there’s no precedent to strip him of his Secret Service protection detail. The current law does not remove Secret Service protection from any former president (in 1994, the law was changed to remove the protection after 10 years after leaving office but Obama reversed this law in 2013). Even Richard Nixon didn’t “lose” the protection; he VOLUNTARILY gave up Secret Service protection in 1985, saying he could afford to pay for his own protection. Typically, laws CANNOT be made retroactive–in other words, even if Congress were to pass a law tomorrow stripping any former president convicted of a felony from Secret Service protection, it’s unlikely that it could be applied to Donald Trump. It would certainly face legal challenges (especially as the Secret Service protection is NOT covered under the Constitution).

  5. it is no coincidence that elephants, the most iconic circus animal, are also the mascot of the Republican Party. The GOP is a circus, and Donald Trump is its ringmaster.
