2024 Is NOT A Presidential Campaign. It’s The Death Or Survival Of Democracy

The networks and media all have their own pet slogans for it, Campaign 2024, The 2024 vote, The 2024 Presidential campaign. They all refer to it as the 3-35 election cycle, like it’s just another normal political occurrence we go through every four years.

And they’re all full of sh*t. Because this is not a normal political cycle. In fact, it’s not a political cycle at all. An electoral cycle in the United States requires one thing, two functional political parties. And we no longer have two functional political parties in the United States.

And I’m not just talking about the abysmally pathetic performance of the MAGA GOP House caucus. Any political party can be overcome by stupidity and functional incompetence, and it can be as funny as hell to watch, just as long as nobody gets hurt. We. No. Longer. Have. A Functional. 2nd. Political. Party. In. America.

And to show I’m not just f*cking around, I’ll pinpoint it for you. We stopped having a functional opposition party in this country in the year of our Lord 2019. There were two totally self contained and self induced events in 2019 that showed that the Republican party no longer functioned as an independent political party.

The first one occurred in the middle of the summer of 2019. Trump was up for reelection, but he was one of the most unpopular Presidents to run for reelection in US history. There were several formidable moderate GOP candidates lining up and filing their paperwork to give Traitor Tot the primary campaign from hell.

Which was intolerable for His Lowness. He couldn’t fce a threat to his rule. And as a result, the RNC, under the doormat leadership of Trump’s lap poodle, Ronna Romney McDaniel, eliminated the 2020 GOP presidential primaries. Trump was the de facto nominee by proclamation. And when a political party has no competition for the highest seat it can run for, it isn’t an actual, functional political party anymore.

The final head shot came in the summer of 2020. The party had already shown its inclination to become a rubber stamp in 2016 when it changed the party platform of support for Ukraine at the convention to please Trump. In the summer of 2020, they basically left the room and turned out the lights of being a functional party. At the start of the Republican national convention, The Platform Committee determined that the GOP 2020 national platform was whatever Trump wanted it to be. The GOP officially stood for nothing. It was officially nothing but a delivery vehicle for El Pendejo Presidente.

And as his legal situation worsens, and his desperation grows, Trump is taking full advantage of his sole ownership of the party. In order to get his far right racist base in a feeding frenzy, The stupid sh*t is literally quoting Hitler from Mein Kampf in his rally speeches. Referring not just to immigrants, but to far left vermin that have infected out country and must be exterminated. And he is prattling about the blood contamination of the American dream. Trump is no longer running under the banner of the GOP. Trump is running under the banner of the TFNP, The Trump Fascist National Party. And the rump GOP is down with that.

In 2024, the general election is going to have to run along two parallel tracks. For the House and the Senate, Democratic candidates are still officially running against GOP opponents. But it is going yto be the top priority of every Democratic incumbent and challenger to relentlessly hammer their opponent to clearly explain their support, or lack thereof of Trump’s fascist positions. Because Hair Twitler now is the official orthodoxy of what used to be the GOP.

On the presidential level, both Biden and the DNC, along with their aligned Super PAC’s are going to have to elevate their game to a whole new level. And it’s going to have to be no-holds-barred. In 2022, Biden did a nice job of tarring what was left of the GOP as being MAGA Republicans, not your grandfather’s Republican party. That did a nice job of highlighting the radicalism of the current MAGA GOP from what voters parents and grandparents used to vote for.

But now Biden and the Democrats are going to have to drop that velvet glove, and go bare knuckle. They can no longer draw a reference to the far right MAGA GOP, simply because that party no longer exists. Trump is running as an unabashed fascist, and the rest of the GOP is right down there in the mud with him.

The Democrats copped a nice sucker punch on Trump today on Veterans Day. They put out a spot of The Cheeto Prophet with his infamous John McCain isn’t a war hero. He was captured. Me? I like people who weren’t captured. A nice start.

More. Harder. Grittier. Trump is openly campaigning on actually opening internment camps. You know, like we did with the Japanese in 1941. Only this time it won’t just be the undocumented immigrants from south of the border. It’ll be the Muslims. It’ll be the fays. It’ll be the trans community. It will be the AAPI’s and anybody else who opposes him. And good luck getting out again.

Please, sweet Jesus, play hardball for once Democrats! Highlight Trump’s fascist babbling, and actually quote the relevant passages from Mein Kampf. Highlight the writings and public comments of lowlifes like Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller. Use stock video footage of the riots of brownshirts in Berlin in the late 1930’s that propelled Hitler to power. Use every goddamned thing you can find.

Because this isn’t politics my friends, and this isn’t a presidential campaign. What this is is an existential battle for the survival of this grand experiment called democracy. On the one hand we have a party that actually firmly believes in the constitution and the rule of law, and attempts to govern.

And on the other hand, we have a hollow shell of a political party, totally owned by a two bit despot desperate to use a return to the White Hosue in order to avoid spending the rest of his life modeling an orange jumpsuit. And if he gets back in, he’s never leaving.

This is not a political campaign. There are no platforms, there are no issues, there are no moral debates. The morning after election day of 2024, there will be one of two things. There will be democracy, or there will be a dictatorship. We had better not f*ck this one up. Because unlike my X-Box 1, there’s no reset button here.
