What a wonderful gift, and particularly on the same day when Bloomberg reports a brand new poll putting Raphael Warnock out ahead by 12 points. Both Monmouth and Suffolk/USA Today polls show John Fetterman with a comfortable lead on Mehmet Oz. This is outstanding news, since based on the last round of polls the race went into “toss up” now it’s back to “lean Democratic.”

Fetterman leads Oz 48% to 43%. Monmouth:

West Long Branch, NJ – Democrat John Fetterman is seen as understanding the concerns of ordinary Pennsylvanians more than Republican Mehmet Oz, according to the latest Monmouth (“Mon-muth”) University Poll of the U.S. Senate race. Fetterman maintains an overall advantage on being trusted more to handle key issues, including those prioritized by independents and Republicans.

Fetterman has a personal rating of 48% favorable to 44% unfavorable, which is similar to his 47%–42% rating three weeks ago. Nearly half (48%) of the electorate will either definitely or probably vote for him in November, which is similar to his 49% support level in Monmouth’s prior poll, except that his “definite” support has increased from 32% to 37%.

Oz continues to hold a net negative personal rating of 36% favorable to 53% unfavorable, which is similar to three weeks ago (36%–52%). He has seen a slight increase in his support for U.S. Senate from 39% three weeks ago to 43% in the current poll, although only 25% are definitely backing the Republican at this stage.

Also, slightly more Pennsylvania voters continue to say they definitely will not vote for Oz (46%) than completely rule out Fetterman (40%).

To those glad tidings add these, from Suffolk University/USA Today:

Democrat John Fetterman is hanging on to a six percentage-point lead over Republican Mehmet Oz in the nation’s most closely watched Senate race, a new USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll of Pennsylvania finds, stoking Democratic hopes of keeping control of the Senate in the midterms.

The Pennsylvania contest is believed to be the best shot Democrats have to pick up a Senate seat now held by a Republican. A victory in the Keystone State would mean an endangered Democratic incumbent elsewhere could lose re-election and not cost the party the 50-50 split that now gives it control.

Fetterman, the state’s lieutenant governor, was backed by 46% of those surveyed. Oz, a celebrity doctor endorsed by former president Donald Trump, was backed by 40%. That’s closer than the nine-point lead, 46%-37%, that Fetterman held in the USA TODAY/Suffolk survey taken in June.

In the contest for governor, Democrat Josh Shapiro, the state attorney general, is pulling away from Republican Doug Mastriano, 48%-37%, an 11-point margin outside the poll’s margin of error. Mastriano, a state senator and retired Army colonel, also is supported by Trump, who visited the state to rally for both Republican candidates.

Oz using dogs to “model human cardiac failure” was not a good idea. Here’s Fetterman using it to nail Oz’s coffin shut.

Fetterman is the only rational choice in this contest. The Fetterman/Oz campaign is one of the most ridiculous this year, being outclassed only by the Warnock/Walker debacle. It’s clear who the better candidate is. May Fetterman and Warnock win and bring something of substance to the Senate. May Oz go back to one of his many houses and may Walker find professional help. That would really be the happy ending to this story.

Help keep the site running, consider supporting.

  1. Excellent news. But I never really believed it was tied.

Any Dem who’s up or within 4 points on Election Day will walk away with it I think.

    • I am thrilled beyond measure to see this but I still say that we continue to campaign like we’re eight points behind. That’s the only way to go.

    • No pushback from the Oz campaign. I read that they were contacted and someone said, “Who is Giselle? Is she running for something?”

  2. You know, after all the snake oil oz has pushed, after being correctly labeled a “carpetbagger”, after being way too hoity-toity for the vast majority of Pennsylvanians, and after being a known and proven puppy/dog killer, how is it this race is ONLY “leans democrat”? WTF is wrong with the folks of PA?
