This is choice. in fact, it’s marvelously choice. The GOP errand boy went to have a sit down with the boss at Mar-a-Lago yesterday and this is as succinct an analysis as you are likely to get of that encounter.

When inmate Trump came forward to run the GOP asylum, everything went to hell. That said, they just can’t quit him. Even the insurrection didn’t do it. So what can we presume? We can presume that David Frum is right. Here’s what he said:
“Maybe you do not care much about the future of the Republican Party. You should. Conservatives will always be with us. If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. The will reject democracy.”

We.Are.There.Now. That is what took place at Mar-a-Lago yesterday. Trump has shown them the way to reject democracy and win as fascists — they think — and so they are there for it. The word “win” is the only thing that matters. The former GOP has decided that it’s time to try fascism, because why not?
Worked for mussollini. Hitler. Putin. Half a dozen others. If the cows are stupid enough to walk to the slaughterhouse on their own, who needs a cowboy?
I look for the pandemic to kill and cripple them, even above and beyond the self-immolation of clinging to Trump. And FYI, it DIDN’T work for Mussolini (hunted down and shot) or Hitler (part of a double suicide) and Putin…it’s looking dicey right now.
When u are able to take over a country & almost the world, it did work. It had to be stopped with a massive military effort. It did not just fail on its own. Sure, ALL human endeavors “wash into the sea eventually”, to borrow from Hendrix. Semantics. Not saying these mental midgets have any true vision, dark or otherwise, just pointing out we cannot just ignore them, or leave them to their stupidity. They will not repent or read. They need to be stopped so they won’t succeed.
Mock them and make fun of them. Scorn even. Shaming won’t work. But need to educate and message the truth. Can’t fix stupid but can contain. (white jackets optional, maybe) And win every time at the ballot box. So much for retiring. But got something to do!!!
More than anything, we got to back up the generations behind us. It’s their world now and we need to start acting like it.
Containment…that’s our jobs, we liberals. Sane conservatives, their job is the cleanup. We do our respective duties, we’ll get this done.
After January 6th, who the hell has been suggesting we ignore them? In terms of being stopped, the Feds have been all over that one since Inauguration Day, possibly before for all we know. That second part has been aided and abetted by lots of folks who can’t wait to turn the bullies in. So, no, it’s NOT semantics to suggest that Gandhi got it right about where such fools almost always wind up. Good people doing something, to paraphrase Sir William Blackstone’s thoughts on the triumph of evil, just speeds it up and minimizes the suffering is all.
