A peaceful protest of Trump’s extreme immigration policies occurring in Huntsville Alabama was purportedly abruptly interrupted by a Trump supporter who started an argument and then – of course – pulled out a gun.
According to Rawstory, A former Huntsville teacher, Shane Ryan Sealy, 34, came to counter-protest, got in an argument with one of the peaceful protesters, when he sent the rest of the protesters fleeing or lying straight on the ground. Protesters were quick to praise the police for quickly disarming the man.
“He pulled out a gun. I saw him holding it out in front of him. We just started screaming for everybody to drop to the ground,” said Ava Caldwell, the rally’s organizer. “We all dropped to the ground crying.”
The police were only able to arrest him because he was not allowed to have a gun within 1000 feet of the protest. Later checks on Facebook found that someone with the same name as Sealy (likely the same guy) has a page full of far right extremist propaganda.
It is only a matter of time until Trump’s supporters – the ones with all the guns – start to feel emboldened enough to violently threaten more and more gatherings, and, of course, they’ve already killed at Charlottesville. The polarization in this country is real, and the stakes haven’t been bigger in long time. Violence should never be the answer for our side, but some conservatives strongly believe it is their patriotic duty to violently act out against those whom their leader calls “the enemy” – us.
Does anyone else see the irony in a president who goes around telling us that immigrants are violent and here to hurt us, and yet so often I feel far more endangered by his deranged supporters than I ever did around an immigrant. Trump supporters seem to be the ones that incite violence, not the people at which he points his finger.
I know I am more afraid for my daughter when I am around pissed off, heavily armed, self-righteous Trump supporters than I am when I am around the average immigrant.
