If Shakespeare tried this, he would have been laughed out of the Theater Guild. Imagine a character that is publicly humiliated on a Monday morning because he can’t raise bond for a fraction of his alleged net worth, yet by nightfall he is raving from the balcony (social media in this century) that his home alone is in fact worth four times the amount of money that he could not produce that very morn. You would be shaking your head and throwing the play into the fire as you rummaged for something plausible to read. But look close, reality trumps fiction and we mean Trump.

I guess the moral of that story is don’t pay your taxes, pay your bond money first. Or something. I would love to see this bill for $300M, truly I would. I do recall he wouldn’t release his income tax statements back in 2016 and if the man paid $300M, that’s enough to run the government of an entire state for a few months. That would be something to hear about. I would crow about that if I was running for president and enriching the U.S. Treasury to that extent.

And he’s back to calling the attorney general Peekaboo. Just between you and me, I think it rankles Trump that she’s got the brains and the wherewithal to be an attorney general when in his mind, she should be scrubbing the floor. I’m serious. That’s what I think he thinks. So I love it that we have not only Letitia James but Fani Willis and Tanya Chutkan on board to clean up the Trump circus. That’s hilarious.

You might remember that Trump tried to sue one of his biographers, Tim O’Brien, for defamation because O’Brien said that he was worth between $150 and $250 million. Which is quite a lot of money. But it’s chump change if you’re claiming to be worth $9 billion.

But look at the pathology there. To be worth $250 million is quite something. You can live very well with that kind of money. And bear in mind, if he had only taken the $4M his father gave him and put it in an index fund on the stock market, he would be worth $12B today. But he didn’t have the sense God gave a goat to protect his money. So likely his fortune has sunk to $250M.

But he can’t stand being exposed. That is what is going to be interesting here. Trump has to come up with the money by March 25, which is next week. What is he going to do?

That’s his first option, yes, smash things, but what is he going to do after that? And poor Melania, she’s worried for the first time in over 25 years about being poor Melania. Remember, she got with him at the age of 26 and then they married some eight, nine years later. But she’s not old but 54 is not young and that is not an age when an unskilled woman, or even a professional woman, for that matter, wants to be wondering about money and security.

Barron is also turning 18 on the 20th, and he may not have a cushy executive job at the Trump Organization as projected, because it doesn’t look like there’s going to be a Trump Organization.

The only one I feel sorry for is Barron. He was born into this mess and we don’t choose our parents. Melania got what she deserved. If you marry for money, you get money — until you don’t.

So, the dominoes are beginning to fall.

    • Well, he can try that but then he sets himself up for perjury charges as HE is the one who constantly claimed to be a billionaire, not just under oath but in MANY public interviews and speeches.

  1. Isn’t the county assessment for Mar-a largo $27,000,000? The tax rate is 1.46% so he paid less than $500,000 in taxes last year. Like everything else that comes out of his mouth, the $300,000,000 he claims to have paid is BS

  2. Real estate records including tax valuations and payments in any county in the country are public records. Will news outlets bother to check and see exactly how much he has in fact paid each year? I doubt any national news organization will. They want to normalize Trump and be able to blather about horse race crap in order to boost ad revenue. However, some local reporter(s) down there in FL might find it worth the time to visit the assessor’s office and look it up. And report it. At least the FACTS will make it onto websites (like this one) all over the internet. Which might eventually force major news outlets to finally report what bullshit Trump’s claim is.

    • The owners of major news outlets want those obscene tax breaks/cuts very, very, badly. and having their journalists/talking heads say this election is a horse race helps them get the mango moron back into the w.h. so that welfare for the wealthy keeps on coming. It’s going to take more than the fact that once again trump lied about what he or his r.e. holdings are worth to make them get off of that track.

  3. A property appraiser in the Palm Beach area put the market value of Mar-a-Lago at around $37 million, which is about $10 million more than the value that trump claimed for tax purposes. That’s as a commercial property. If Fani or E. Jean swooped in and seized it, they might be able to get it for it’s current assessed value and then apply for a re-classification as residential. After shutting down the club and evicting the current owner, and a little renovation to get rid of the carpet and cheap fixtures (and work to repair some water damage) they might be able to sell it for $200 million. Personally, I would keep the property exactly as it is and capitalize on its potential for generating income as a tourist attraction and a movie set. Maybe Michael Eisner would be interested in partnering to turn it into a theme park, and wouldn’t that be poetic justice?

  4. Trump may well believe it’s worth over a billion. deals are whatever supposedly does after all. mean while, the highest priced home in the country is on the other side of Florida in Marco Island on the market for 400 and something million.

  5. I believe he inherited over 400 million not 4 million. Either way he’s pissed it away. What parent would leave that kinda money to a child with an IQ of 73 and no more sense than a tomato? Either an eternal optimist, a fool, or someone who didn’t give a rat’s ass about what could happen.
