This is intriguing. Donald Trump is attempting to preempt a presidential run by Ron DeSantis. Why? Trump is constantly touting how he’s leading DeSantis by 30 to 50 points, so who cares what DeSantis does?

Trump does for some reason and it will be interesting to find out what that is.

Meanwhile, take a look at Don Trumplione’s not so veiled threat to DeSantis, a variation of “You’ll never work in this town again.”

You know Trump doesn’t give a tinker’s damn about dividing the GOP, so let’s throw that out first and foremost. The rest of it translates as, “If you lose the ‘cherished’ and ‘massive’ MAGA vote, you’ll never work in this town again,” basically. And then he tells him he needs to remain governor.

What is going on?

Here’s an interesting thread discussing what things DeSantis needs to figure out before he decides to run.

What does Trumpty know that we don’t? Because if his polls are accurate, and he’s 30-50 points ahead of DeSantis, why in the world would he want to discourage DeSantis from running? If anything, it would be to Trump’s advantage to publicly clobber somebody who he is already laying waste to in the polls.

Maybe he doesn’t want to debate DeSantis? And if that’s true, then it can only be because he doesn’t want DeSantis to bring something up in a debate.

This is getting curiouser and curiouser.

  1. I happen to think DeSantis would wilt so fast they’d have to slow-motion it for people to see him faint & fall if he were to debate Trump. But maybe not. Maybe he’s holding back and practicing one-liners that are sure to send Trump into a raging meltdown while also getting descendants of Nazi medical researchers to grow him a spine and a way larger set of balls. And some kind of “courage serum.” Whatever. The thing is, sometimes you have to admit Trump has some savvy political instincts. Way back when everyone thought it would be a quaint, and more importantly useless to the point of being kinda sad for Joe Biden to make a real run at the Presidency Trump saw danger. In fact, as we all learned over time Biden was THE candidate Trump actually feared having to run against. We also saw the lengths Trump went to in order to kill a Biden candidacy long before primaries even started!

Because of that, because Trump does have an uncanny ability to sniff out danger and seek out how to avoid it (until now, far more often successfully than not) this is worth keeping an eye on. As you say, DeSantis is well behind him in polling of GOP potential nominees. DeSantis is also behind in key states but closer than in national polling. Maybe not in the ballpark but at least in the parking lot. You (and Murfster too) have been pointing out Trump’s recent obsession with DeSantis and the clear desire to wipe him off the board. As soon as possible.

Whatever the rest of us (Democrats, Independents and semi-sane traditional Republicans who have their tax cuts and way more friendly judges and Justices than they ever dreamed of) who aren’t just tired of the KKKrazy and KKKaos think about DeSantis ability to “play” outside of FL (he won’t go over at all well) Trump knows he can’t get back into the WH without being the GOP nominee. He also knows that with all his legal troubles he will get beat up some in the primaries and it will be used against him in the general election. He knows he can’t afford ANY wounds from the GOP. He needs clear decks – a clean run to the nomination. He sees something about a DeSantis candidacy others don’t.

Trump might be wrong on this one, but as I’ve already said one has to, if only grudgingly admit Trump does have some decent political instincts. He wouldn’t be trying to do an abortion on a DeSantis candidacy (yes, I chose that analogy deliberately) if he didn’t believe he really, REALLY needed to.

  2. The reason fat ass ran in 2016 was to stay out of jail and to find out what the doj had on him.
Destinkus smells blood in the water and since he is a gutless opportunist and a punk fascist, thinks he can sucker a bunch of rubes into giving him all of their money which he gets to keep, win or lose.
that’s why republiCLOWNS run for public office.
    Think about it.
What type of corporation would hire an asshole like Lindsey Graham or distinkus?

  3. DeSantis is doomed. Not only will his 3rd World Petty Dictator Routine repulse non-Floridians, his debating skills have never been tested. He always arranges his public appearances so he is insulated from any questions or feedback from the public or reporters. He’s no match for the Pro Manipulator and Spewer of Hate and Confusion. I see him wilting the first time the Black-Hearted Bronze Buffoon casts his eyes in D.S.’s direction on the debate stage.

  4. Anyone running against former guy, ”pube or democrat, will hammer away on his criminal record. Quite frankly, they don’t even need to have any policies-just continually bring up what a criminal trump is. Constantly bring up how you, the ordinary people, would be rotting in jail for committing 1/10th of the crimes former president putz has committed. If death sentence would stick to that script where trump is concerned, he’d go a long way to securing at least the ‘pube nod. Won’t really help him in the general election tho’.

  5. Does it not seem too far fetched to make some rules for the debates, for God sake? In a civilized society what’s wrong with demanding that they can’t say or do this or that?! That would stop the orange stain from bullying everyone to death. Just debate about facts and plans. A debate with him in it, is just a street fight with blood running down it. It would serve no purpose.
