Donald Trump isn’t known for getting his facts straight, much to the delight of social media users, where he regularly gets barbecued. So why should his incorrectly blaming New York Attorney General Letitia James for causing Exxon to pull up stakes in New York and move to Texas be any different? He was standing outside and talking to reporters after his civil fraud trial when he uttered another incorrect brain fart, because why not?

“She should be criminally liable for this, she did this to exxon,” Trump told reporters. “and they drove exxoon out of new york…they’re now living in Texas.”

Well, I don’t know how a whole, entire company “lives” anywhere but of course, this isn’t the dumbest part of his comments.

Sure, James did sue ExxonMobil in 2019 on accusations that the company defrauded (a case she lost), but the fact is Trump’s theory was about as wrong as wrong can get, and X users were quick to take note, Raw Story reports.

Exxon departed New York in 1989, which was the same year James began practicing law.

Trump and the facts have generally been two separate entities. He just speaks out of the wrong end of his body and has never bothered to make sure he’s correct. Of course that’s been fun for scores of social media users, so at least there’s that.

As you might guess, the video, shared by MeidasTouch.com senior digital editor, Acyn has racked up a massive two million views. This has led X users to come up with all kinds of ideas about why Trump made the bizarre claim.

“Listen,” said Warren, “Don’t let facts get in the way of a good story.”

 

“Next, will trump blame biden for russia getting the atomic bomb in 1949,” wondered marc goldstein. “or does he think that was a good thing?”

 

“if it wasn’t for leticia [sic] james,” quipped jergen meselvoff, “the dodgers would still be in brooklyn.”

The Dodgers actually left in 1957, the year before James was born.

      Now, if you’re just talking about during his “political” career, we probably passed that point before the end of 2022.
