Donald Trump keeps forgetting that since he has dedicated his life to living in front of the cameras and in the press, there’s an awful lot of documentation on what he has said and done in the past — not that he remembers any of it, necessarily, because you don’t need to have studied psychiatry in Vienna to have figured out that Trump is becoming progressively more and more unhinged as time goes by. His father died of Alzheimer’s and Trump is exhibiting all the signs as well.

Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in New York City Saturday on charges of sex trafficking dozens of minors to New York and Florida between the years 2002 and 2005. Although Trump bragged about knowing Epstein in a New York Magazine profile published on Epstein in 2002, how much do you want to bet that by mid-morning Sunday, Monday at the latest, Epstein will be TrumpWorld’s newest coffee boy?
And you know what will be interesting? Labor Secretary Alex Acosta’s role in all this. Acosta used to be a federal prosecutor in Miami and he illegally kept the details of Epstein’s slap-on-the-wrist plea from his victims. Swampiness there, much? But Trump hires only the best people, doncha know.

He would love to be able to say that. That’s what he can get away with, regarding people in his campaign. But somebody high profile like Epstein, whom Trump went out of his way to be seen with, and known to be friends of? That’s going to be harder to sweep under the rug. We’ll see. I’ll bet it’s a dreary Saturday night in Bedminster, NJ.
Over at emptywheel, when this came up earlier this evening, bmaz, who is an attorney, warned that there may be problems ahead – a lot depends on whether the incidents he’s charged for are before or after that [illegal] plea deal with Acosta. (DoJ doesn’t recognize that illegality.)
Two thoughts: This is a federal proceeding and the plea deal was state (I am 95% sure) and specifically these charges pertain to activities from 2002 to 2005.
It’s a federal plea deal – it was Acosta, now labor secretary, who did it (and never told the victims).
Even if he skates, this has the potential to let out a TON of embarrassing info on a lot of folks currently not in the media glare of this story.
This is true. I also think that it puts Trump in an interesting position as well. Wonder how the base will spin this? The assignment editors at Fox News must have a terrific headache right about now.
The news today that Epstein was arrested for these crimes is some of the best I’ve heard in a while. Hope he brings a whole bunch of the rats down with him (apologies to actual rats).

I’m dying to know what he’s got on Trump. It was very sad when the woman who was raped at 13 decided to drop the case against Trump back in 2016. That was happening right here in Los Angeles. I* can’t say I blame her, because she was getting death threats both against herself and her family.
