Donald Trump has a particular communication style that nobody in politics has ever had. He makes things up on the spot, and then later on he makes up a totally different story, that states the opposite of what his fervent beliefs were the previous year or even the previous day. This is especially inconvenient in the day of the internet, when a comment can be fact checked and the incriminating tweet, video, photo be submitted to the world, at the speed of light no less.

Trump is playing a very dangerous game right now. He’s opposing Mitch McConnell and the Republican establishment, because that’s what he does. He thinks that makes him a heroic figure with MAGA and that is the way to power. But what really is taking place is that he’s undermining support for the rest of the GOP. Trump is frequently compared to Hitler for his destructive propensities which affect us all but when all is said and done, the Republicans may end up hating Trump more than anybody else for the way he has divided and fractured what was left of the party.

Trump trashing Lankford and McConnell is not a good idea.

Former President Trump and his allies have embarked on an aggressive campaign to deliver maximum embarrassment to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) over the border deal he blessed.

Why it matters: Facing a dead end in the House, the Senate’s debate over a bill released just 24 hours ago has morphed into a proxy war between Trump and the final bastion of the GOP establishment in Congress.

  • Trump allies — eager “to make Senate leadership sweat” — are counting on all 31 senators who have endorsed the former president to come out against the bill, a source familiar with the effort tells Axios’ Sophia Cai.
  • McConnell’s original goal was to win over at least half the Senate GOP conference, which has 49 members; after a day of mass defections, support now threatens to drop into the single digits.

State of play: The Senate will vote Wednesday on whether to advance a $118 billion emergency package that pairs historic changes to immigration law with funding for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.

  • Among other reforms, the bill would raise the standard for the first step in seeking asylum and includes emergency authority to automatically turn back illegal border crossers to Mexico when numbers surge.
  • At least 10 Republican votes ordinarily would be needed to overcome a filibuster, but opposition from progressive Democrats likely will drive that threshold higher.
  • Ahead of a GOP conference meeting this evening, McConnell defended the bill on the Senate floor: “Senate Republicans have insisted — not just for months, but for years — that this urgent crisis demanded action.”

Meanwhile, the jackals of the House and Senate, Mike Lee, Josh Hawley and Mike Johnson to name a few, are out to burn down McConnell as well.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and his entire leadership team issued this blistering statement: “Any consideration of this Senate bill in its current form is a waste of time. It is DEAD on arrival in the House.”

  • Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), a conservative critic of McConnell, called the bill a “betrayal” and demanded new GOP leadership.
  • “Wouldn’t it be nice if Republican leadership in the Senate cared as much about Republicans as they do about [Senate Majority Leader] Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.)?” tweeted Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.).

This is the way of the jungle, Mitch. A lion gets up in years, he gets wounded and then the jackals and the hyenas come en masse and finish him off. And Lankford is learning the ways of the jungle as well. He’s supporting a piece of valid legislation and the Leopards Eating Peoples’ Faces people are all over him. Trump has denounced him, he’s taking all kinds of heat.

The takeaway is that the GOP is in a state of collapse. It didn’t happen overnight. One could even argue that you could trace the demise of the party back to Richard Nixon. And historians probably will do so. But for the moment, what we are observing in real time is the desperate reality TV actor, attempting to stay out of prison and get back into the White House, encouraging the final destruction of the party that he is ostensibly the standard bearer for.

The total irony here is that the senator who so succinctly predicted this very thing, back in 2015, was Lindsey Graham. And he wasted no time doing a Trump himself — forgetting what he said before and jumping on the MAGA train, right into the lap of his master.

  1. g.o.p. caucus-democrats are holding up immigration reform for…reasons.

Senate puts together an immigration bill which gives the g.o.p. basically everything they’ve whined about for years:

g.o.p-the immigration bill is dead on arrival.

If there are bigger hypocrites on the planet than the g.o.p. please present them: I do not think it is possible.

  2. Just checking, if Schumer gets all 51 Dems/Independents on board, he would only need 9 republicons to support the bill. Not great, but it gets the ball over the line.
The republicon break down reminds me a bit of the transition of the Democrats in the 1980’s when the blue dogs in the south started to shift to republicons. So many of them loved to vote to support ronnie raygun. That to me was the beginning of the end.

  3. It seems that the Orange Shitgibbon has done more harm than good to his very own well-being, the Maga’s, at least the mostly aware ones, are finding the giant use of their donated funds leaking out to the bottomless pockets of Trump personally, and are being spent for the, anti-prison fund that Trump has no other sources left to grift … Sad, I’m sure for them, as they have begun to want their money back … Of course, the jackass would NEVER do that, he will NEVER apologize for any of his actions, besides his memory, which appears to be failing fast, is as mixed up as the basic components of a huge load of concrete, fainting at a rant session may have been signs of small stroke, if, indeed, he is leaning on golf clubs …

Some time in the near future, maybe today or tomorrow, the thickness of One Donald Trump’s skull may not protect him from the facts being shown to him via a hand full of documents handed to him in court, the awe-inspiring sound of an inert Trump’s ass hitting the floor should be preserved for ALL TIME in the Library of Congress … 🙂
