This was completely expected but in all truth, people thought Donald Trump would have at least a little bit of restraint and wait a few days at least before violating his gag order, but no, he’s violating the gag order, except in a different case. Trump dramatically announced that he was going to New York to attend the Trump Organization fraud trial. That may have been in response to Judge Arthur Engoron commenting on his absence, talking about “two sides arguing in front of an empty chair.”

Trump accusing anybody of “ranting and raving like a lunatic” is rich. I love it. An IMAX projector has nothing on him.

Trump has been running anti-James videos on Truth Social and X for days now both before and after the gag order. The idea is of course to inflame MAGA but Trump won’t win this election with MAGA alone, anymore than he won the last one. And he’s trashing Judge Engoron as well. This is from 11 hours ago, well after the gag order was issued in the other case. Either Trump doesn’t understand that the gag order was meant generally (although it can only be enforced by Judge Chutkan with respect to her case) or since he can’t rave about Jack Smith, he’s going to put all his eggs in the Letitia James basket.

Here’s more. I’m sure the gag order was issued believing that these would be taken down, because Trump would surely get the general idea, but in fact they were not.

And another. It’s not complying with the gag order to be calling somebody a monster in your social media feed.

Trump is pushing the envelope. The next move that can logically be made is either Judge Arthur Engoron issuing a gag order or Judge Tanya Chutkan pointing out that Trump is violating the terms of her limited gag order in another case today. In either event, Trump appears to be manipulating the situation to make himself a political martyr so that he can gin up both sympathy and outrage and of course raise money.

That seems to be the state of play today. It was originally thought that he came to New York today to confront Michael Cohen but Cohen is ill and not attending court. So Trump’s just there to grandstand.

  1. My gut is telling me that the Letitia James video is AI. I don’t know why but it doesn’t seem that this would be something she would do during the trial. I don’t trust because it was on X or Now This. Anyone want to talk me down?

    • It could be cut together. My point is that what you see here is what Trump has in his feed — wherever it came from. He’s looking to make this into a vendetta and himself a victim of a witch hunt.

      The fact that he’s doing that tells me that he’s getting MAGA ready for a guilty verdict. So he’s worried, plenty. That much is clear.

  2. Michael Cohen was scheduled to be a witness at court today, but was rescheduled to attend next week. I think that is why tRump was in court today. He just can’t help himself wanting to slander someone who has all the “goods” on him. He wanted to be sure his fact free voice could renounce Cohen and the truth. Get the popcorn ready that testimony is going to be good.
