This is getting more and more like an oldies FM radio station, “The hits just keep on coming!” Recently I wrote an article that told how the NRA was going to court to try and force a way for one of their lawyers to sit in on an upcoming deposition of former there-for-a-cup-of-covfefe NRA President Oliver North, whom the NRA’s former long time advertising firm had subpoenaed as part of their suit against the NRA.
Maybe they should have just left enough alone. The Daily Beast is reporting that the NRA’s lawyers filed paperwork with the court in Virginia showing that on August 21st, the law firm representing former NRA ad agency Ackerman McQueen, also slapped NRA head honcho Wayne “Pepe” LaPierre with a subpoena to come on in, if he was that interested to know what they wanted. But at least he won’t be lonely in the waiting room, the spokesman for the NRA, as well as an assistant to an executive vice president also got the booby prize.
This is becoming dangerous for the NRA. Most depositions have a nasty tendency to turn into a shit show. While Ackerman McQueen may know that they know, they have no way of knowing exactly what the witness knows. Any answer from the deponent in a deposition can accidentally open up whole new avenues of inquiry, which lead God only knows where. And since North is embroiled in a vicious vendetta against LaPierre, who knows where this will lead when the two start talking smack about each other.
This couldn’t come at a worse time for either the NRA, or for the GOP. The NRA’s already suffering from decreased membership, as well as depressed corporate sponsorships, and the media has caught whiff of this, and is happy as pigs in slop to report on the NRA twisting in the wind. Meanwhile, it has already been reported, and I’ve written about both the NRC, as well as the Trump campaign being worried about a less effective NRA assistance going into a tough election cycle, both in terms of contributions to GOP candidates, as well as possible weakening of the NRA’s grip over their membership.
This is not going away anytime soon, and I’m going to keep on covering it. In 2018, the Democrats ousted somewhere around 19 A or A+ House members from their jobs, weakening the NRA’s hold on congress. The continued gun violence in this country, as well as renewed Democratic enthusiasm for the fight, and Yertl McTurte’s unwillingness to bring anything substantive up for a vote in the Senate, is going to keep this issue front and center in 2020. The bigger this media circus becomes, the more GOP pro-NRA incumbents it places in mortal peril. And the better for all of our prospects for living to a ripe old age.
Why, suddenly, are potential mass killers being rounded up before they can commit a mass shooting? This has not happened enough times to make the news I’ve read and the FBI is not in the business of heading off events, just coming in after a crime has been committed. According to the head of the FBI.
Were these events just not reported? Or is there some reason so many have been arrested lately? I’d like to know for sure before I blame a conspiracy.
My best guess is that a) they’ve had info on each of the arrested for a while and b) after that deadly weekend earlier this month, some of the higher-ups gave their subordinates permission to drop the hammer. No conspiracy required…just the right people saying “Do it.”
I believe it’s because their numbers have exploded, and they are making this country look worse and worse, and energizing the pro-gun control people.
Just as important as ousting the A+ member of congress is that it has now been demonstrated that there’s no liability in a campaign to running against the NRA, and more people are doing it.
