You know, things can get pretty rough in politics, but that’s nothing compared to life in the wild. We’ve all heard stories of wild animals with such a strong sense of survival that, if they get their leg caught in a trap, they will suffer the intense pain of chewing it off in order to escape. Compare that to today’s Republican party, which isn’t caught in anything, but is still gnawing off a leg to make it easier for the dogs to catch up.
I wrote previously that since Trump’s loss, the GOP has been careening like a steel ball in an overhearing pinball machine. But they really lost their collective shit at the corporate response to Georgia’s new Jim Crow voting laws. And now it has degenerated into the GOP calling for a nationwide boycott of baseball in revenge for MLB moving the All Star game out of Atlanta. Really? Baseball?
Just a couple of observations here. First, MLB’s decision was logical, sane, and sound business sense. Last year, MLB took a well deserved ration of shit for waiting 9 days to come out in favor of BLM following the death of George Floyd. Second, even a quick glance at the average baseball team roster shows that black and brown people are still firmly in the minority. Third, the average MLB fan is predominately white, and the median age is 57. This Georgia law was the prefect opportunity for MLB to get out in front, show themselves as socially relevant, as well as sensitive to the community, and hopefully expand to a more diverse base.
But leaving MLB to the side for the moment, there are still two glaring errors in the GOP latest death cruise off of the end of the earth.
Numero Uno. What just happened to us all? By circumstances largely out of our control, pretty much the entire nation has spent the last 16 months basically under enforced home detention. Bars were/are closed, restaurants are closed, we leave the house to go to work, if we don’t work from home, and to go to the store. Those of us who love sports watched our favorite teams on television, playing in empty stadiums to canned crowd noise and music. Not exactly satisfying, but at least it was a welcome diversion.
But now we have a professional, calm, qualified government running things, and things are changing. Vaccinations are surging, old farts like me are now at the bottom of the Covid bell curve. Personal aside. I got my first stab last Friday, and get my 2nd Moderna shot on the 30th. One week from tomorrow I will be protected enough to no longer have to worry about dying from Covid. Starting on April 19th, anyone of any age can register for their vaccine, Nevada is already open to all age groups. And Biden is still quite rightly promoting July 4th as our Independence Day from the scourge of the coronavirus, at least within reason.
And now the Republican party wants the entire nation to boycott Major League Baseball. Are they out of their fucking minds?!? We’ve already established that the major audience for baseball is largely older and white. In other words, the natural demographic of the GOP base. Now the GOP wants them to stay at home and twiddle their thumbs instead of go out and finally catch a ball game, at least partially surrounded by like minded humans? News Flash for the GOP. If some sharpest could somehow or other create a professional shuffleboard league, and take it on the road? He’d sell out every match in a heartbeat. People are that starved for entertainment, especially outdoor entertainment.
And now for the second problem with this ill conceived strategy. We have already established that baseball is a majority white, older fan base. But forget the fans for a moment and ask yourself a quick question. Who actually owns a major league baseball team?
That answer is, not surprisingly, corporations, business consortiums, and uber rich white shitpokes. In other words, the traditional GOP donor class! Yeah, you got it. The GOP wants their long suffering base to continue to suffer for live, outdoor entertainment in order to spank the very group who make up the contribution life blood of the GOP, for making a sane and sensible business decision for themselves.
This cannot end well for the GOP. For anyone who hoped for a resurgence of the traditional GOP following Trump’s defeat, you can fuggedaboudit! The defining feature of the Cornholeone Crime Family was their complete inability to put rational thoughts together, and act in their own best personal and political interests. And it is now obvious to to everybody that the GOP, has become truly Trumpified, and is incapable of operating in a rational manner. This should get interesting real quick.

I have recently looked at Greg Abbott’s behavior and thought he is a mini-Trump. Instead of doing things to help people recover from the winter storm damage and ensure consumer protections going forward, he replaces PUC members with his hand-picked lobbyist. Instead of working to help all the thousands of unaccompanied minors in migration hold, he rails they are abusing children and should be shut down. I am pretty fed up with him, but I doubt his red blooded base will change.
Yes Cherim because he’s trying to preemptively protect himself from a primary from the right next yeatr by his ambitious Lt Governor…
Just got my first Pfizer shot today myself. The GQP is intent on fulfilling their suicide pact, it would seem, and they’re pissed that all the people they’ve been passively trying to kill off are going to carry on without them. Let COVID wipe every one of them out like Smallpox did Hispaniola’s native population for being that pig-headedly stupid. They tried killing me too witb this stuff and I take that kind of personal.
Trumplicans are pure white trash.
