Oh, man, this is another one of those You Can’t Make This Up moments. But it’s really happening, down in the Lone Star state, where being a first class a-hole seems to be a condition precedent for running for public office. This is incredible. Read this post from Colorado City mayor Tim Boyd.
It goes without saying that this went over like the proverbial lead balloon. And this you’ll love. When the good citizens of Colorado City were about to get out the torches and pitchforks, Boyd resigned — and he used the Donald Trump private citizen alibi as his excuse for the egregious post.
I ask that you each understand I never meant to speak for the city of Colorado City or Mitchell county! I was speaking as a citizen as I am NOT THE MAYOR anymore. I apologize for the wording and ask that you please not harass myself or my family anymore!
The “harassment” of his family included the fact that his wife got fired. That’s unfortunate, but in a town the size of Colorado City, population 3, 931, it was a reasonably foreseeable consequence of him blowing up and doing a Trumpesque insult fest to the town. It would have been inappropriate at any time, but in the middle of a terrible winter storm, with another on the way? Simply indescribable.
The good news is that this guy probably won’t run for public office again.
EXCUSE ME Mr. Boyd!?!? People PAY taxes, PAY for electrical service, PAY for water and gas service and other services! In return they expect those services to be reliable! And one of the main reasons that government exists is to help people in times of crisis!
I hope this guy stays out of political life. It’s clearly not what he’s cut out for. Nor social work, nor teaching. Maybe he could dig graves or something where the only people he interacts with are dead.
