Occasionally, somebody on Fox News will commit a random act of journalism, usually Shep Smith or Chris Wallace. Today it was Wallace, actually fact-checking Stephen Miller in real time. Wallace came prepared to rebut the fallacy that he must have known Miller was there to deliver. Man, has Wallace come a long way. You may recall that he basically threw the third debate to Donald Trump because he refused to fact check at all, plus he teed up GOP talking points blithely. He asked Hillary about “open borders” and she said that when she used that particular term, she was speaking of energy and not immigration. I pretty much despised Wallace that night, but he’s starting to redeem himself, and today was a good step in the right direction. The clip is only 1:35, worth the listen.

This is hysterical. Miller keeps insisting that his twisted version of how to interpret AOC’s comment on 10% garbage is that she’s talking about the country, rather than health care policy, is the plain English reading of the sentence. OMG. This group of people will stoop to any low in order to push a talking point and get a conspiracy theory cooking.

Liz Cheney is pushing this “garbage” CT as well, and doubling down on the socialism talking point. If you can stand to listen to her on CBS, here’s the link.

Trump and his administration are straight out of the P.T. Barnum playbook. They are depending on the American people being suckers. And I understand that. They’re only where they are because so far that premise has proven true.

This is just a preview of coming attractions, folks. Trump does believe that “indecency can win and that cruelty can be popular.” That’s spot on. You may depend upon more of this down and dirty fighting before we flush this turd on November 3rd — or, alternatively, that we cement our status in the world as a once-great nation, and now a banana republic, ruled by a tinpot, no-class dictator. It’s going to come down one way or the other. 2020 is going to be either the Great Affirmation in American history of who and what we are, or the Awful Realization of same. But either way, Election 2020 will be the most definitive moment since the Civil War.

    • I don’t want to think about what will happen if Trump gets reelected, just like I didn’t want to think about what would happen if we didn’t take back the House in ’18. I was a nervous wreck on election night, couldn’t even watch the returns until I found out that we had regained the house by one seat. Then I could watch the rest of it.

The most important point we need to push home to people is that this election is not politics as usual. This is culture war, good v. evil, plain and simple. I don’t think that’s overstating the case. I think that it is that basic.

  1. OMG, what a vile little fascist POS this guy is. You can hear where tRump gets some of the hateful swill he spews. I hope someone in our party is assigned to keep track of Miller’s part in this horror show so that when we get our country back, we can put him away, far, far away so he can never cause any more harm to our people.

    • My take is that Smith and Wallace are both hedging their bets. If/when Trump goes down in flames, then they can say they were part of it, fighting the good fight, etc.

  2. Interestingly, recent events seem to be improving AOC’s poll numbers. Recently I was commenting on the mystery of why they were so low. She was pulling a net -16 favorability, and -20 from independent voters. This put her distinctly below other Dems.

In the most recent economist poll they poll the four freshmen, and AOC has improved to net -8 favorable. Still not great, but that’s a big improvement over all her previous polls. She’s -12 with independents in the recent poll. But it’s also remarkable that she went from 2% favorability with Republican voters (not net 2, but 2% total) to 10% favorable.

This poll pulls her from being an outlier to right in the same territory with the rest of the pack (presidential candidates and a few other misc legislators). She’s not far under Warren, Harris and Sanders with indies, and she’s even pulled ahead of some others like Gillibrand. Her favorables in the poll are really close to Beto’s.

What does her shift in favorables mean? I’m not sure. I suspect that in part people like her more when she’s playing defense than offense, which holds for a lot of elected officials. But I’m not sure. The bottom line is that Trump and the GOP launched all all-out assault on her, and her numbers shot up.
