Speaker Mike Johnson: “And people say, ‘How can a young person go into their schoolhouse and open fire on their classmates?’ Because we’ve taught a whole generation, a couple generations now of Americans that there’s no right or wrong, that it’s about survival of the fittest, and you evolve from the primordial slime.”
Johnson’s statement indicates he believes that evolution means teaching no morals, believing in no right or wrong, and having no value for life.
Johnson also sees evolution not as potentially complimentary to a biblical faith, but views it as some fundamentalist Christians do, as the antithesis of his faith.
The implication of Johnson’s belief that the teaching of evolution is to blame for school shootings ultimately blames educators and scientists for school shootings. According to Johnson graphic, he’s lumped atheists and women’s reproductive rights advocates in there too.
Blaming evolution and the lack of societal piety allows Johnson to be off the hook politically for addressing the mass shooting and gun violence epidemic in our country. For Johnson, the answer to mass shootings is mass revival, not common sense gun laws.
Don’t expect Speaker Johnson to offer any legislative solutions to prevent school shootings. He’s too busy blaming school teachers.
Johnson is an intellectual amoeba who is now making Kevin McCarthy look like Winston Churchill by comparison. This is a sad state of affairs that we have a lightweight like this in charge of the lower chamber of Congress. Let us hope the electorate does the right thing and restores some balance to government by voting the Democrats back into House control since Americans are now the biggest laughing stock of the world since November 8, 2016, the day Donald Trump was elected. Mike Johnson just broke the mold.

Religion can, or at least should teach why & some context, and in the process help people finding meaning. Science endeavors to figure out how. The two don’t have to be at odds with each other.

Fundamentalist religion, whether Judaic, Christian, Muslim, or others I’m not familiar with, without exception, all share that same arrogant attitude – only THEIR religion is the path to paradise/enlightenment/nirvana/everlasting life/the grace of God, whatever. Not a single one considers their God and Creator could be the the same as the other guy’s God and Creator, regardless of the name they use.
More wars have started over religion than any other, if not ALL other points of conflict in the history of mankind.

Once fertilized, the DNA produced could result in 58 billion possible combinations. Then factor in all the minutes you have lived that are unique to you. When Islam claims in the Quran, that when you kill a person, you destroy an universe…they are correct. In America, people don’t know Religion, Science, or history of any kind. If you were correct, the evangelical South should have the lowest rate of divorce and teen pregnancy. They do.not. In fact, that honor goes to MA, which has fact-based sex education and teaches evolution in bio. And before you mutter something about Catholics issues with divorce–yes, they do, but they also teach evolution because PiusXII was fine with it. I know this because I.had 17 years of Catholic education. We didn’t get detailed sex ed, but what went where was taught as part of biology. I even had a nun who believed the Pill would be acceptable.
