This could get intense. There are a lot of factors to be considered where George Santos’ future is concerned.

One, he insists he will not resign. And I’m sure he won’t. If he did, that would reduce the GOP majority to three and poor Kevin is sweating it badly enough already. He can’t see his quartet reduced to a trinity without breaking out in hives and boils.

Two, it took a lot of money to get Santos where he is right now. And those interests want the benefit of their bargain. This has gone wayyyyyy beyond the kind of situation you had in California back in the day when Grey Davis was recalled and Arnold Schwarzenegger became governor. This is Smoked Filled Rooms, Master Class.

This is a clip of the Republicans who promised a strong statement yesterday making that strong statement.

The question becomes, where do we go from here? This evokes images of the Sopranos. A congressman was bought by the powers that be, and they damn well expect him to stay bought.

So I believe Santos when he says he’s absolutely not resigning. I think you can take that one to the bank. But the fact that the Nassau County GOP is doing what they’re doing indicates that there’s a whole other level to this and well there should be.

Plus, we don’t know what the investigation of Santos by the local D.A. is going to unearth. Meanwhile, Kevin McCarthy will use Santos as the rubber stamp he needs for his purposes and he doesn’t care if the man has bodies buried in the back yard. Santos is bulletproof so far as House censure is concerned. So it’s left to the D.A. and the Nassau Republicans.

This is really where we are. What a sad place to be, this level of abject corruption and the total absence of decency.

  1. The Nassau Republicans want him gone *they have his replacement picked out* “george santos” wrote his ass can’t cash…..

  2. ‘When a clown moves in to a palace it does not make him a king, it just makes the palace a circus’.

    Turkish Proverb.

    Proven true by republicans.

  3. Santos can’t be recalled. First, there is no provision in the Constitution for recalling an elected federal official. And it’s never happened so the Constitutionality of the handful of states that have a provision for trying it has never been tested. Note I said handful of states. Hell, not all states have recall provisions! And in some, recall only applies to local officials but not state level ones. And then we have the fact that some states including New York don’t have a provision for recalling anyone. The only ways for Santos to not be a Congress Critter are for him to resign or be expelled. Or die which I hesitated to bring up because some conservative asshat that follows this site will go ape-shit. But Santos is young and seemingly in good health so I don’t foresee that being something that would happen anyway. Besides, like Trump the last thing I’d wish for is death. No, both of them should spend a long, long time in prison!

Santos isn’t going anywhere. Keep in mind that while conviction on one or more felonies doesn’t automatically cause him to lose his seat. The House would still have to vote to expel him and given how narrow their majority is the GOP will allow remote voting if that’s what it takes to hold onto that vote! I keep saying shame isn’t something they possess and if that’s what it takes they won’t give a shit at the outrage.

    • Perhaps this incident could be something that changes the laws, much as we saw the clarification of language regarding a vice president’s role in election certification after the zooish activities of January 6.

      • step one, it needs to be SOMEBODY’S explicit responsibility to check the constitutional qualifications of congresspeople, preferably before they get elected but afterward if necessary. As it stands, some district could elect a 16 year old Kazakh shepherd straight off the boat and NO ONE thinks it’s their job to dispute it.

    • As,long as,Creepy Kevin desperately needs his vote, he won’t be expelled. I am not certain if he is indicted and found guilty as a serial killer they would kick him out. Because there would have to be a special election if he resigns, the GOP is terrified the constituents might consider a moderate Dem. Upstate NY is pretty red and consent but this might tip them over.

  4. I wonder when he’ll show up with a white pointed hood, beaming with pride? Or a nazi armband? A shirt made from a confederate flag maybe? He won’t go too long without making an ass of himself…it’s his nature.

    • He’ll not only wear those get ups, but a Revolutionary War costume, the uniform Florence Nightingale wore during the Crimean War, and probably his deer stalker hat from when he taught sleuthing to Sherlock Holmes.

      • Oh gawd. A friend once took Miss Lindsay and put him in an Azalea Trail crinoline with ruffles and surrounded his mug with ringlets. Scarlett O’Hara he was not. I still.have nightmares.

  5. Brazil seems to be handling its coup attempt better than we did ours (of course Joe had not been inaugurated when ours happened so he could not have taken the actions Lula did), and it has a huge beef with Santos, so it may have something to say about him.

  6. I don’t think there’s a constitutional provision allowing recall. In this situation, I believe the only way is his resignation, impeachment or expulsion (neither of which is a curent viable option) or criminal prosecution. I would think that if Brail seeks extradition in the case they reopened against him, the U.S. government would be happy to comply. Otherwise, the people are likely stuck with him until he can manage to be beaten in 2024.
