Shades of Alec Baldwin. In yet another display of how divided the country is right now, right-wing media is crowing over the fact that Robert DeNiro’s grandson, Leonardo DeNiro Rodriguez was found dead in his apartment at the age of 18. CBS News:
Asked about [Leonardo DeNiro] Rodriguez’s death, a New York City Police Department spokesperson told CBS News police went to a building in lower Manhattan on Sunday afternoon in response to a 911 call. An 18-year-old man was found unconscious and unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead by emergency medical services, according to the statement provided to CBS News. Some news outlets have reported Rodriguez recently turned 19.
The city’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner would determine the cause of death, the police spokesperson said.
On the other side of the media aisle, the Gateway Pundit is reporting that. “He was found with a plate of an unidentified powdery substance next to him.” And they say, “For the past six years, actor Robert De Niro has become more well-known for spewing hatred and expressing his desire to physically harm President Trump than for acting.” The article republished DeNiro’s epic takedown video of Trump, where he called him a mutt, a pig, and numerous other things.
Like Alec Baldwin, the right-wing media was quick to leap into action when the tragedy on a film set occurred, when a gun that Baldwin had in his hand discharged with live ammo in it, killing the director of photography.
Tragedies happen in life and none of us are immune. If Donald Trump was any kind of a real leader, he would call off the dogs after this unfortunate event, but he won’t. He didn’t do it for Baldwin, whom he despises, and I’m sure he won’t do it for DeNiro.
What a world we live in.

The thing that’s ugly is that there used to be boundary lines. A death in the family was a boundary line. Even if you hated somebody you left them alone when they were in a time of loss and mourning — particularly a situation like this, the blunt trauma of the sudden death of a young person.
Those are the worst. A friend phoned me many years ago and told me her 16-year-old had been killed in a car accident. I knew the kid since he was three and I knew his brother when he was a bump in his mom’s belly. So a sudden death like this is an awful thing, believe me.
But, the right-wing hates DeNiro as they hate Baldwin, because both of those men hate Trump. So we are the United States of Hatred, I guess. Jesus, I never thought I would see social discourse plunge so low.

Sometimes we just have to chill a bit. I try to look at the bright side of what has been happening for the past 7 years. And I come to this site daily – all of you are truly great at what you do.
The bright side is that these roaches are coming out from under their rocks, as difficult as it is to deal with for us moral folk.
In reading comments in MSM articles, I can see two things clearly: 1) far more commenters are “getting it”; that these RWNJs are really crazy and dangerous and their comments reflect a very good grasp of the issues, much, much better than even 5 years ago; 2) the postings of the RWNJs are immediately identifiable because they lack facts, and the quality commenters are not only quick to point that out to them, but refute them and/or put them on ignore and they seem to shrivel up and poof disappear. (I don’t “do” dark side website cesspools.)
Let’s look at the hopeful signs, too.
If there’s any redemption, I’m sure DeNiro is quite aware what a bunch of evil asshats these folks are, and could care less what they say. In boot camp they don’t teach you to worry about what the enemy thinks of you. I refer to the great speech Brad Pitt gave to his new recruits in Inglorious Basterds. To paraphrase he said: I didn’t come down from the Smokey mountains, cross thousands of miles of ocean, fight my way across Sicily, and jump out of a goddamn plane to teach the nazis humanity. Nazis ain’t got no humanity. They are the foot soliders of a Jew hating maniacal mass murderer and they must be destroyed. I expect 100 nazi scalps and I will get my 100 scalps from each of you. Exactly.
