The word “bombshell” has grown weak and ineffective from being severely overused, but for the moment, let’s pretend that the pre-Trump meaning of the word still applies and that this is a “wow” moment, because indeed it is. In an early morning exclusive, CNN has published texts by Rep. Chip Roy and Senator Mike Lee, which show that they were onboard the Trump train and going along with the fallacious reasoning that somehow the election had become tainted, until at some point even they decided that it was a joke.
They then begged Trump to let it go. He refused. He wasn’t going to listen to anybody and he wasn’t in the mood for logic or reasoned argument. That was the moment that things got completely out of hand. The ensuing speech on January 6 and the riot were the logical extensions of Trump losing control earlier that day.
The takeaway here is that both Roy and Lee knew when to quit. Trump did not. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not praising either Roy or Lee. There was never, for a moment, any indication of wide spread voter fraud which would justify all the suspicion and quasi-investigation of an issue that didn’t exist. Roy and Lee shouldn’t have gone to the lengths that they did, even insinuating that something was wrong or could be wrong. That said, at least they did back away from the accusations when it became absurd to continue with them, and of course Trump wasn’t moved by the absurdity. He just soldiered on. Absurd or not, he had to salve his ego and if that meant burning down democracy, oh well.
The shoe that we are all waiting to see drop now, is what is the J6 Committee going to do with respect to a criminal referral on Trump? That’s the obvious next step here.
The referral, in and of itself, is not substantive. There is more than enough evidence that Trump engaged in criminal conduct to justify a referral. But what happens from there, is not in the hands of the J6 Committee.

Bob Mueller stated Trump had committed enough crime to be charged with a crime after he left office,(so much for equal treatment under the Law), yet crickets. It appears the LAW is as full of it as the Christian Church. Both are rife with hypocrisy. So let the committee make the referral. I’m sure merrick will place him on double secret probation. Let’s see…15+ months of clear criminality after 4 years of clear criminality after a lifetime of clear criminality and he sits on his fat ass playing golf AND STILL LEADING THE INSURRECTION. I wonder how many millions of pot smokers & daddys without jobs have GONE TO JAIL during that time? The LAW remains as a joke until PROVEN OTHERWISE. It’s a tool the rich use to make money & keep the rest of us in line. Fact. No, actually, all roads lead to Ukraine…EVERYTHING Trump did is related to that. Concordantly, I suspect that is the reason–in addition to Garland and Co not being f***ing morons and babble everything they know–why we’re just NOW getting info on this tranche of traitors. It’s no stretch to think that the DOJ, in conjunction with the rest of the national security apparatus, had to be sure the GQP weren’t active intelligence assets in the thrall of Putin. Add in court and/or pandemic delays and…well, expecting this to be delivered as quickly as a McDonald’s Happy Meal is folly.
Raises an interesting question…how deep were Roy and Lee into the J6 insurrection before they panicked? Related questions: why are these texts being released NOW? Did they cut a deal with the DOJ? Or are they being advised that now is the time to do so? OR did Roy and Lee leak this themselves because they know which way the wind is blowing?
They were happy to go along with it, right into January.
