Another day, another Onionesque headline. However bizarre, it’s true. A recent CBS News/YouGov poll show that Trump voters aka MAGAs, trust their Mango Messiah above family, church leaders and other conservative figures — and by no small margin, we want you to know. By a considerable margin. He may be Trumpty Dumpty to you and me but to them he is the God of their understanding. Take a look and try not to let your jaw hit the laptop, those keyboards are hard.
There you have it. They may trust Ben Shapiro or Franklin Graham or Mom or brother to some extent but not like they trust Trumpty. Yes, it is enough to make you sick. And here’s another chart from the poll showing why Ron DeSantis and the others are having a problem cracking the orange ceiling.
DeSantis has 17%, the other three have 15% between them, and Marmalade Mussolini leads the pack by a definitive margin.
That’s the poll. And here’s a word from Wingnuttia. God told this fruit fly that Trump would return for a second term, followed by the anti-Christ. So what are we to make of that? The next American president will be the anti-Christ? It’s hard to make sense out of what these people mean. Here, give it a whirl.

You can see why the right-wing extremist evangelicals support Trump, it’s because the MAGAs do and that’s the tribe that the evangelicals want to fleece. We’re speaking of the prosperity consciousness people, Kenneth Copeland with his fleet of planes, because there are demons on commercial airliners, for example.

That’s the size of it. How Franklin Graham and the rest of them sleep at night I don’t know. But I guess that hypocrisy can justify any and everything if you have enough of it.
All you need to remember is 900+ people drank cyanide in Jonestown. Parents murdered their own small children. This is what evil cults do. Time to wake up America. I can’t remember which documentary I saw on Jonestown, but I remember one incident that shocked me. A mother stabbed her two children to death. For a woman to do that, she would have to believe that she was “saving” them from some greater evil. I know that women did that in WWII rather than let the Nazis get the kids. I understand that. But to fear an invisible enemy is going to get your kids is something else altogether.
If you think some Nazi moms (and dads) were crazed enough to “protect” their children by murdering them, or sacrificing themselves what happened in the Pacific with Japanese including civilians will make your blood run cold. Perhaps the most graphic and documented version was what happened on Saipan, which was the first major stronghold taken that had a quite large Japanese civilian population. Before committing sepuku (and botching the job) the General put out a notice to his troops to fight to the death (concluding with “I go out to meet the enemy” even though he was about to kill himself instead of leading a Banzai charge) he also put out ones to civilians to resist to the death, and to not be taken alive. In a cruel twist he invoked some ancient custom that translates to “parents/children death pact” and tragically countless parents murdered their children and in some awful ways. From dashing baby’s brains out on rocks to having kids form small circles, pulling the pin on a grenade and tossing it between them till it blew, or up at Marpi point jumping offf once of two cliffs with a child/children clutched to them.
The believed in their Emperor THAT much, a “god” figure living in Japan and leading them so when his subordinates gave orders in his name people were all too prone to follow them. Given we’ve just marked the use of atomic weapons to force not just an end to the war but an UNCONDITIONAL surrender (there were overtures about surrender but they always included keeping the Emperor) and debates about having used them people should know this type of thing. McCarthur, who by the way was opposed to the use of the bomb was to be sure a vain, egotistical man and commander. He was also extraordinarily gifted in leading troops and planning battles. And uncannily accurate in estimating casualties. He thought doing things the traditional way and invading the Japanese home isles would result in a MILLION casualties.
I had the privilege, honor even of personally knowing and in some cases talking to people who fought in the Pacific. Especially after I earned the right to wear the Eagle, Globe & Anchor myself a few of them spoke a little with me about what they had done and what they had witnessed.
Seeing a group so large in the U.S. that increasingly views Trump like Japanese of now gone generations did their Emperor should scare the living hell out of the rest of us. There are plenty of old-guard GOPers who realized years ago when Trump took over the GOP that their monster they lengthened the lease for at election time had not only broken the leash but mutated. It’s out of control and has grown, and like the line from Hotel California “they stab it with their steely knives but they just can’t kill the beast.” Only they are too afraid to even try.
That is beyond intense.
War comes with breathtaking ugliness that manifests in a myriad of ways both with those who directly fight each other and civilians caught up in it. Any student of history can find examples going back thousands of years. And wars still happen. We already know of atrocities from the Ukraine war but I can promise you there is FAR more ugliness that’s gone on and is going on as I write these words that someday we’ll learn about. And we will gasp in horror. Not want to believe it. The worst part is as with all wars we’ll never learn it all, or just how ugly things got sometimes in some places.
It’s proof that for all our delusions of being an evolved species we are far from being so. Like so many other animals human beings are capable of inflicting appalling cruelties including horrible deaths on other living creatures. Some like to pretend “lower” animal species are pure of such things but there are examples everywhere on the planet that are every bit as vicious as humans too often are.
Ursula, I was watching a history channel documentary on WW2 last week. I forget which island we invaded in the pacific, but 25,000 japanese civilians committed suicide, rather than be taken prisoner. It would be beyond belief if it weren’t true. It goes to show what cultural brainwashing is capable of. I wonder when the 74 million will decide to start taking lives by ignoring traffic laws. We’ve already seen them in action January 6th. I know it’s a horrific idea, but my point is there is no predicting the depravity and depth of evil.

IF the creator of the universe sent former guy to us, it was as a warning. That only a bit more than half of us realized it is effing frightening.
That said, I suspect the creator of the universe created the universe and called it a day leaving everything to evolve and solve their own problems.
spike…it’s in the Genesis story…Adam was in the garden of paradise, and told not to touch or eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. He and eve disobeyed and brought death into the world. Some may blame God, but, if you think about it…what good is it to be worshipped if Adam wasn’t given free will? We’ve been abusing it ever since. It doesn’t have to be literal to contain truth.
