I have thought throughout this debacle that Nancy Pelosi has to be laughing her a$$ off — when she’s not busy crying, because make no mistake, this stalemate in the House of Representatives right now, which has our government at a standstill, is a tragi/farce. Turns out Pelosi does feel sad for the institution of the House and she also thinks it’s a joke that the basics of bringing a vote to the floor seems to escape this iteration of the Republican party. For that matter, probably Newt Gingrich is shaking his head and laughing as well.

“I’m never bringing to the floor a bill that doesn’t have the votes,” Pelosi said in 2021.

Speaking after Jordan’s failed vote for Speaker – 20 Republicans voted against him – Speaker Emerita Pelosi weighed in.

“I feel sad for the institution. I think it’s sad that they’re getting worse and worse,” she said Tuesday, according to HuffPost’s Jennifer Bendery. “They should take a lesson in mathematics and learn how to count.”

That is the simplicity of it. That is exactly what escapes Jim Jordan, Kevin McCarthy and the rest. You control your conference and you get your votes nailed down and then you make your move. They could talk to Mitch McConnell. He would explain it. But Jordan notoriously has zero relationship with McConnell and that’s yet another derogatory feature about him and his proposed Speakership. McCarthy was ineffectual but at least he spoke with McConnell and communicated with Joe Biden at the White House. Jordan hasn’t done either of those things.

Frankly, I’m surprised that Jordan hasn’t claimed that the vote was fraudulent or demanded a recount. I’m not being facetious. That’s who he is and how he rolls.

Well, maybe they can all go watch Sesame Street and learn how to count. What a shame that Trump University is out of business, don’t you think?

  1. I looked in several places but couldn’t find a meme that immediately came to mind. Remember Pelosi and Schumer leaving the WH during the Trump years and that picture? Her in that striking red coat and Schumer walking down the drive as she put on her sunglasses. The caption was marvelous, with Schumer asking “Is that blood on your shoes Nancy” and her response of “Just keep walking Chuck!”

If there wasn’t so much critical stuff being in limbo right now this would all be funny as hell. Sadly, tragically even this GOPer circular firing squad with them running around like rabid monkeys sh*tting all over the place and flinging turds at each other isn’t the least bit entertaining. If that’s too colorful a description of House Republicans too bad because that’s pretty much the way I see them. In fact, I could go a whole lot MORE “colorful” but I’ll spare everyone…

  2. This is how the government of the most powerful country, with the largest economy, in the history of the world should be run.

    According to Republicans.

Roll on the next elections so we can get rid of these wreckers and morons.

    • Honestly Concinnity, I don’t see it being done better in many, maybe any, other places. Fact is, democracy is messy and in today’s polarized societies (not just ours) using the term “messy” is being generous. The only places where governing isn’t particularly messy is where government is not made up of the people, only one person-dictatorships. I don’t consider that to be a fix. I also don’t know how we fix the mess democracies are mired in. I’m hoping young people have answers, or at least ideas, because something has got to give. We saw that things can get quite bad when our laws don’t keep this democracy train on the tracks. And that was just a small taste of the bad.
