You’re familiar with Jamie Raskin’s description of the “rings of sedition” and how the closer in you get to Trump, nobody wants to cooperate and talk. Be that as it may, CNN is reporting that Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell have been subpoenaed by the January 6 Committee along with Jenna Ellis, the key players in Strikeforce Rudy, the legal brain trust which, with the expert advice of co-counsel John Eastman, was gong to topple the government of the United States of America. Boris Ephsteyn will have to take a day off from right-wing media in order to testify, assuming he intends to show up at all.

This is one of the chapters in the Trump saga, which, while serious as a heart attack on the one hand, it is pure farce on the other.

“The expected appearance comes after months of negotiations between lawmakers and the former mayor of New York, who served as former President Donald Trump’s personal attorney for much of his presidency,” CNN reported.

“Giuliani, a central figure in Trump’s failed bid to overturn the 2020 election, was subpoenaed by the committee in January and has been engaging with lawmakers, through his lawyer, about the scope of the subpoena and whether he may be able to comply with some requests.”

This distills down to Rudy won’t come along voluntarily, so they’re subpoenaing him, and the others, and so it’s going to get whacky. Giuliani has already challenged the power of the J6 Committee, saying that they don’t have the right to issue a subpoena and we’re going to find out toute suite if he can make that proposition fly.

In its subpoena, the committee alleges Giuliani “actively promoted claims of election fraud on behalf of the former President and sought to convince state legislators to take steps to overturn the election results.” The subpoena also states Giuliani was in contact with Trump and members of Congress “regarding strategies for delaying or overturning the results of the 2020 election.”
The article goes on to state that Rudy “doesn’t intend to waive” executive privilege or attorney-client privilege and so he’s going to try to make that fly, apparently.
This is now getting into strange territory. You know all too well that when Giuliani comes on the scene it gets surreal and fast.

  1. He was never a member of the White House staff so ‘executive privilege’ wouldn’t apply to begin with (and anyway it’s the PRESIDENT who makes that call and I can’t see Joe Biden doing that for him)
As for ‘attorney-client’ – he’s law license was suspended (or hasn’t he realised that yet). Besides which, that privilege doesn’t exist when it involved criminal activity

  2. You know, we say it’s comical but these putz’s hold law degrees and licenses (or I suppose “held”???). It does not look very good for an attorney to be so every-loving ignorant. It is supposed to be a learned profession and these people, and others, have turned into a running gag. What does it say for a state/country that is supposed to hold “the rule of law” in high regard to have such incompetents studying and practicing the law?
